Joe Flacco ‘all but assured’ to be Week 1 starter vs Ravens
According to Jets team source, Joe Flacco is “all but assured to be the Week 1 starter” against his former team, the Baltimore Ravens, as reported by NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. (Source: Jordan Schultz on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: This expected news is now more official with Zach Wilson’s successful knee surgery on Tuesday giving the Jets more clarity on his return timeline. Flacco played 11 seasons 2008-18) in Baltimore, leading them to a Super Bowl XLVII victory over the 49ers. Last season, Flacco completed 27-of-42 pass attempts for 338 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions in two games for the Jets last season. Flacco will remain the starter until Zach Wilson can return. The Jets have a brutal schedule to begin the regular season, beginning Week 1 when they host former NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Raven. The Jets play five teams in their first nine games that qualified for last season’s playoffs, so the game script should favor the Jets receivers like Elijah Moore, Corey Davis, and rookie Garrett Wilson. Flacco has favored tight ends throughout his career, so newcomers Tyler Conklin, C.J. Uzomah (when healthy), and rookie Jeremy Ruckert.
Marquise Brown gets first practice with Kyler Murray in Monday
Marquise Brown and Kyler Murray, who played together at Oklahoma, got in their first practice together Monday. Brown has been slowed by a hamstring injury and Murray with Covid-19 and a wrist injury this summer.
Fantasy Impact: Even though they played together in college, the more reps Brown and Murray get during the preseason, the better. It’s not ideal that both have missed time, but given their familiarity with each other, they may be able to sync up quickly. Brown’s fantasy value should be strongest at the start of the season while DeAndre Hopkins is serving his suspension.
Jimmy Garoppolo: Jets reportedly not interested, confident in Joe Flacco
The New York Jets are reportedly not interested in trading for Jimmy Garoppolo despite Zach Wilson’s knee injury according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Rumors started to swirl about the Jets possibly trading for Garoppolo almost as soon as Wilson limped off the field Friday with what was feared to be a season-ending ACL injury but later diagnosed as a bone bruise/meniscus tear. Wilson had successful arthroscoic surgery on his injured knee on Tuesday and should return early in the regular season. The Jets may have been interested had the news on Wilson’s knee been worse but are reportedly confident in veteran Joe Flacco’s ability to lead the offense until Wilson is ready to return. Garoppolo will have to continue to wait and see what team will be in need of or interested in his services as training camp continues.
Antonio Gibson seen working with special teams

Fantasy Impact: Gibson’s stock continues to be diluted and the most concerned group would be Gibson’s dynasty shareholders. Special teams is not normal for someone with Gibson’s fantasy history, but it can signal a change of tune for his future usage. Last season he fumbled six times and that is causing the coaching staff to question his role for 2022. His ball security issue continued in the first preseason game too. Gibson briefly ran with the starters but wound up fumbling on his second carry, which resulted in a benching. The third-year-vet entered the game later on but only after the second-team was in. Brian Robinson, however, had a lot of reps with the first-team offense while Gibson was benched. It is extremely hard to understand this backfield, especially with J.D. McKissic rotating in on third-down.
