Saquon Barkley continues to impress at Giants camp

According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley has impressed so far in training camp. Barkley appears to be fully healthy after sustaining multiple injuries over the past three seasons, and he’s been praised for his explosiveness, decisiveness, and quickness. (Source: ESPN)

Fantasy Impact: Barkley’s rookie season when he produced over 2,000 all-purpose yards and finished as the RB1 in PPR formats feels like ages ago. Over the past three seasons, Barkley has suffered numerous injuries that have limited his playing time and effectiveness and have led to his draft stock falling from the consensus 1.01 to being drafted at the two-three turn in 12-team leagues. Fantasy managers have been burned by Barkley in recent seasons, but the potential upside he has shown makes him an intriguing target in fantasy drafts, albeit a risky one. All indications from Giants training camp suggest Barkey has regained the elite athleticism that wasn’t always evident last season as he returned from a torn ACL he suffered the year prior. Still just 25 years old, Barkley has the potential to be a league winner, but he remains one of the riskier players being selcected in the early rounds of fantasy drafts.

Kareem Hunt requests a trade

According to Mary Kay Cabot, Kareem Hunt has requested a trade, but the Browns told Hunt that they have no intention of abiding by his request. (Source: Mary Kay Cabot on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: It was reported Saturday that Kareem Hunt wanted the Browns to either give him a new contract or trade him, and it seems like he has now officially chosen the latter. While Cleveland has no plans of moving the star RB at the moment, a trade to a team where he could be the true starter would be magnificent for his fantasy value that is currently capped due to fellow RB Nick Chubb. This situation is one for fantasy managers to closely monitor as training camp and the preseason continue.

Jimmy Garoppolo expected to be kept until cut-down day

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, there are no clear trade partners for QB Jimmy Garoppolo as he continues to rehab his injury. The San Francisco 49ers are expected to keep Garoppolo as long as possible until necessary, even potentially until final cuts at the end of August. (Source: Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Garoppolo’s days in San Francisco are clearly over, but with questions surrounding his health, as well as his cap hit and the capital required for a trade, there aren’t any clear partners. That doesn’t mean there’s a lack of interest, though. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk mentioned the Los Angeles Rams may be interested if Garoppolo were cut, as Stafford is dealing with an injury of his own that may linger into the start of the season. NFL rosters have to be cut down to 53 by the end of August, and it’s possible we don’t see anything happen with Garoppolo, outside of speculation, until then.

Adam Thielen getting consistent red-zone work in new offense

Adam Thielen has been getting consistent red-zone work in Minnesota’s new offense at practice. (Source: Kevin Seifert)

Fantasy Impact: Thielen has been a very solid fantasy contributor over the past few seasons, and a lot of his points come from touchdowns. This news is good for him, it means that the new coaching staff is playing to his strengths and want to put him in the best possible situations. This report should be very reassuring for the veteran’s fantasy outlook, and he could be a really good value pick at his ADP.
