Deshaun Watson ‘willing to accept’ eight game suspension and fine

According to a source familiar with his defense, Deshaun Watson is willing to accept an eight-game suspension and a $5 million fine to avoid a season-long suspension. (Source: AP News)

Fantasy Impact: This seems like the obvious stance for Watson to take, especially as it seems like the NFL is interested in lengthening his original six-game suspension by a hefty amount. The quarterback’s ‘willingness’ to take an eight-game suspension and a fine doesn’t mean much unless Roger Goodell and the league are interested in some sort of compromise. As of now, the league is seeking a minimum suspension of 17 games along with a significant fine of over $5 million, so it is clear that both sides have significant ground to cover if negotiation or compromise were to take place. The 26-year-old QB is the riskiest draft pick in fantasy, and it’s getting riskier by the day, as it looks like managers should buckle up for a longer suspension than the original six games.

Jimmy Garoppolo drawing interest from Browns amidst Deshaun Watson appeal

Per league sources, the Cleveland Browns would consider trading for Jimmy Garoppolo if the league significantly increases Deshaun Watson’s suspension. (Source: Cleveland.com)

Fantasy Impact: This rumor completely hinges upon the league and the ruling of Peter C. Harvey on Deshaun Watson’s suspension, but it feels like the move that makes the most sense for Cleveland. If this move were to happen, Garoppolo would bring a much safer option as the Browns’ signal caller. If the veteran were to be acquired by Cleveland, Amari Cooper, David Njoku and their other offensive weapons would see their fantasy value boost a bit, as Garoppolo is much more reliable than Jacoby Brissett.

Baker Mayfield expected to see about one series

According to Darin Gantt of Panthers.com, Carolina’s head coach Matt Rhule said QB Baker Mayfield could be expected to play about one series in Saturday’s preseason opener. (Source: Darin Gantt on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Recent reports have indicated that Mayfield is pulling away in his race with QB Sam Darnold, but Rhule said that no decision has yet been made on a starter. All eyes will be on Carolina to see who they trot out for the team’s first series. Currently, Mayfield has an average draft position of QB25, according to FantasyPros.

Ken Walker III to receive ‘a ton’ of work in preseason opener

Per Gregg Bell, we should expect Ken Walker III to receive a ton of work in the team’s preseason opener on Saturday against the Steelers. (Source: Gregg Bell on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: With Rashaad Penny likely missing the game with a groin injury, it makes sense that the Seahawks will see how Walker looks in a game environment. The rookie looks to be the clear backup to Penny at the moment, but he is in a great position to take over should Penny miss time due to injury. Nonetheless, the performance of the 21-year-old out of Michigan State will be one of the bigger storylines in Saturday’s slate of preseason games.
