Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets: Quarterbacks

Jared Goff (DET): 46% rostered

  • Next opponents: JAX, MIN, @NYJ
  • True value: $5
  • Desperate need: $10
  • Budget-minded: $3

Analysis: The next two weeks are set up to be pretty favorable for the Goff and the Lions. Jacksonville and Minnesota have struggled all season in coverage, while Detroit is welcoming dynamite rookie WR Jameson Williams to the roster after his ACL recovery. Goff looked strong against Buffalo on Thanksgiving with a 19.6-point performance. Adding him as a streamer could help vault you into the fantasy playoffs.

Mike White (NYJ): 4% rostered

  • Next opponents: @MIN, @BUF, DET
  • True value: $5
  • Desperate need: $10
  • Budget-minded: $3

Analysis: The Jets are going to be a very tough team to beat if Mike White continues to play like that going forward. The 27-year-old eviscerated the Bears in the rainy Meadowlands on Sunday with 315 yards and three touchdown passes. Zach Wilson was simply terrible this season and never showed this much poise or moxie at any point before he was benched. The Jets enjoy a very nice upcoming schedule; even Buffalo hasn’t looked as tough on QBs lately with the injuries in their secondary. White could very well end up becoming a league-winning streamer.

Marcus Mariota (ATL): 38% rostered

  • Next opponents: PIT, BYE, @NO
  • True value: $4
  • Desperate need: $9
  • Budget-minded: $2

Analysis: The Falcons were the surprise of the early season, briefly sitting atop the NFC South. Atlanta has dropped three of its last four games. Even though Mariota has been a decent fantasy QB, his performance on the field has been pretty poor, only making up for it with his rushing ability for us fantasy managers. The way to beat the Steelers and Saints, Atlanta’s next two opponents, is to attack with downfield passing. Mariota will only be a high-floor streaming option in danger of getting benched if the Falcons continue to freefall out of contention.

Kenny Pickett (PIT): 11% rostered

  • Next opponents: @ATL, BAL, @CAR
  • True value: $4
  • Desperate need: $9
  • Budget-minded: $2

Analysis: Don’t look now, but the rookie first round pick has started to look more comfortable as a professional QB. Pickett’s last two games were fruitful for fantasy, reaching a respectable point total in two different ways. Pickett was a back-end QB1 in Week 10 versus the Saints thanks to his rushing ability (51 yards and a touchdown). Week 11 against the Bengals saw him attempt 42 passes and pile up 265 yards and a touchdown through the air. The Steelers’ schedule is QB-friendly through the rest of the season, so don’t shy away from hitching your wagon to Pickett if you believe in him.

Jordan Love (GB): 1% rostered

  • Next opponents: @CHI, BYE, LAR
  • True value: $3
  • Desperate need: $5
  • Budget-minded: $1

Analysis: Could we see another fill-in QB light up the fantasy scoreboard on the Chicago Bears? I believe it to be very possible with Jordan Love stepping up to lead the Packers to the finish line in this awful disappointment of a season. Aaron Rodgers left Sunday night’s game against Philly with an aggravation of his already-broken right thumb. It would not be any shock if the Packers mailed it in and put Rodgers on the shelf for the rest of the season if he needs surgery. Love connected with rookie Christian Watson for a long touchdown on his first drive of the game after replacing Rodgers in the fourth quarter. The Bears got lit up by Mike White in Week 12 and could very well make Love a solid one-week streamer on the cheap.

Stash Candidates: None

At this point of the season, there really isn’t any reason to stash QBs. We are trying to reserve every possible roster spot for key skill players who can help us win. Go ahead and stream QBs with good matchups off waivers right into your starting lineup if needed.
