Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Quarterback Streamers (Week 13)

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups: Quarterback Streamers (Week 13)

Week 12 of the 2022 NFL season is in the books. Last week’s streamers weren’t overly productive but a solid bunch. Marcus Mariota scored 13.9 fantasy points against the Washington Commanders but had his two-game streak with two touchdowns scored snapped. Meanwhile, Jacoby Brissett scored 13.1 fantasy points in his final start for the Cleveland Browns. After averaging 271.3 passing yards per game over the previous three contests, the veteran quarterback had only 210 yards last week, his lowest total since Week 1.

However, the only easy win was last week’s win. So, let’s look at the top streaming options for Week 13.

All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN 1QB leagues and under 25% in Superflex leagues.

Streaming Targets in 1QB Leagues

Jimmy Garoppolo (SF) vs. Miami Dolphins (48.4% Rostered)

Last week the veteran quarterback had 13.3 fantasy points in a win over the New Orleans Saints. Jimmy Garoppolo played well against a talented defense, completing over 70% of his pass attempts while not turning over the ball. More importantly, the veteran quarterback averaged 18.4 fantasy points per game over his previous six contests, scoring 16.3 or more fantasy points in all but one matchup. Furthermore, he had 13 passing touchdowns during that span, throwing at least two in all but one contest. Meanwhile, Garoppolo has an excellent matchup in Week 13.

While the Dolphins held Kyle Allen to only 9.8 fantasy points, the former backup was making his first start of the year. Furthermore, the Houston Texans’ offense is arguably the worst in the NFL. Yet, he still had 215 passing yards and a touchdown in the game. More importantly, the Dolphins had surrendered an average of 21.7 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season before last week’s game, the second-most in the NFL. Miami has also given up two or more passing touchdowns in nearly half of their games this season. Unless the San Francisco defense can shut down Miami’s offense, Garoppolo will need to put up points if the 49ers are going to win.

Jared Goff (DET) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (29.2% Rostered)

Over the first four weeks this year, Jared Goff was on fire. He was the QB5 during that span, averaging 22.9 fantasy points per game, scoring 26 or more twice. Unfortunately, the veteran quarterback has cooled off since then. He scored fewer than 12 fantasy points in three of the following four games. However, Goff is coming off a solid performance on Thanksgiving against the Buffalo Bills. The veteran quarterback had 240 passing yards, two touchdowns and scored 17.6 fantasy points, his best outing over the past month.

Jacksonville is coming off an impressive win last week against the Baltimore Ravens. However, their defense is one of the better teams for fantasy players to stream quarterbacks against this year. The Jaguars have surrendered 18.7 fantasy points per game this season. Furthermore, they have given up seven passing touchdowns over their past three contests, giving up 24.2 fantasy points per game during that span. Moreover, Jacksonville has given up three or more passing touchdowns in 27.3% of their games this season. While he’s unlikely to have three passing touchdowns on Sunday, Goff should have another 17-plus point fantasy performance.

Streaming Targets in Superflex Leagues

Mac Jones (NE) vs. Buffalo Bills (5.4% Rostered)

Unfortunately, things haven’t gone to plan for Mac Jones this season. The second-year quarterback is averaging only 11.6 fantasy points per game this year, down from 12.1% from his season average as a rookie. However, Jones has missed time with a high-ankle sprain and probably returned from the injury too soon. Yet, the young quarterback is coming off the best performance in his career on Thanksgiving. Jones had 382 passing yards and 23.3 fantasy points against the Minnesota Vikings, both career-highs. He also had two passing touchdowns, a season-high. Hopefully, last week’s performance signals that the young quarterback is healthy.

Meanwhile, the Bills have held quarterbacks to only 13.6 fantasy points per game this season, one of the lowest averages in the NFL. However, their defense has struggled lately. Over the past three weeks, Buffalo has surrendered 307 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and 19.7 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, giving up at least 15.5 fantasy points in every contest. Furthermore, they have given up 282 passing yards and 2.5 passing touchdowns to quarterbacks over the past two weeks. More importantly, star pass rusher Von Miller won’t play on Thursday. If he is finally 100% healthy, Jones is a solid QB2 option this week against a struggling Buffalo defense.

Mike White (NYJ) vs. Minnesota Vikings (2.9% Rostered)

After New York’s loss in Week 11 to the Patriots, the Jets made a change at quarterback. They benched Zach Wilson and named Mike White the starter. Last year the former fifth-round pick played in four games, averaging 11 fantasy points per game. Unfortunately, he scored under 8.2 fantasy points in three of those contests. However, he was terrific on Sunday in his first start of the year. White completed 78.6% of his pass attempts for 315 yards, three passing touchdowns and 24.8 fantasy points in the win over the Chicago Bears. Meanwhile, his matchup this week is fantasy-friendly.

The Vikings have surrendered 19 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season, one of the higher averages in the NFL. Furthermore, they have given up 16 passing touchdowns this season, including two or more scores in five of their past six contests. More importantly, their defense has been awful lately. Over the past three weeks, Minnesota has surrendered 339.7 passing yards and 21.6 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. Moreover, the Vikings have given up 300 or more passing yards in five of their past six contests. White likely won’t repeat his 24.8 fantasy points from last week. However, he is a solid streaming option for fantasy players in Superflex leagues.

Streamer to Avoid

Deshaun Watson (CLE) vs. Houston Texans (43.1% Rostered)

Typically streaming articles tell you which players to target off the waiver wire. However, I give one quarterback each week that you should avoid.

Let me be crystal clear:  Deshaun Watson is not a must-sit this week, but a situation where fantasy players should consider other quarterbacks too. Do not rush to start him this week if you have similar alternatives. The star quarterback hasn’t played in nearly two years. It will be 700 days between his last game for the Texans and his first for the Browns. Furthermore, Watson looked awful in his limited preseason action. He played only one game, completing one of his five pass attempts for seven yards. More importantly, the Texans have an awful run defense, which means the Browns will try to exploit it with Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.

While Houston has an awful run defense, giving up a league-high 1,592 rushing yards to running backs this season, they have played well against quarterbacks. The Texans have held quarterbacks to only 12.6 fantasy points per game this season, one of the lowest averages in the NFL. Furthermore, they have given up only 10 passing touchdowns this season, including only six over their past six contests. Last week, Houston held Tua Tagovailoa to only one touchdown and 16 fantasy points. With Kyler Murray being the only fantasy-relevant quarterback on a bye this week, fantasy players can find a safer streaming option than Watson for Week 13.
