The theme of this week’s injury roundup is The Kids Aren’t Alright. There were many injuries to some of the up-and-coming young players, many of whom were doing quite well with their big league clubs. This leaves us in the land of Boring Ol’ Veterans as replacement players, though many teams are continuing to call up their youth at a rapid pace. Still, it’s disappointing to fantasy managers to lose their “breakout” guys.
Let’s take a look at the wreckage from Week 3.

Fantasy Baseball Injury Roundup: Week 3
Logan O’Hoppe (C – LAA)
O’Hoppe went down with a torn labrum in his left shoulder, which is going to cost the 23-year-old four to six months of recovery. Considering how shallow the catcher pool can be, his .283/.339/.547 slash line is going to be hard to replace from the waiver wire.
What to do: Stash him on the IL in dynasty leagues, but those in redraft leagues can definitely open up his roster spot by dropping him. If Jonah Heim is available on waivers, he would be my first pickup to replace O’Hoppe.
Garrett Mitchell (OF – MIL)
Mitchell had been finding his footing in Milwaukee after being a hot prospect option for the Brew Crew. However, he now has a left labrum injury that could require surgery, effectively ending his 2023 campaign.
What to do: Joey Wiemer SZN has arrived for those of you able to grab him. He should get a very long leash as Milwaukee’s centerfielder, though Blake Perkins will fit into the mix as well.
Trevor Rogers (SP – MIA)
Alas, the Rogers bounce-back season I was hoping for does not appear on the horizon. The 25-year-old had reduced his BB% while knocking his K% back up a couple of notches before a left arm injury landed him on the IL. The Marlins aren’t being too forthcoming on the injury, so it remains to be seen how much time he will miss.
What to do: Chances are good you weren’t using Rogers as the anchor to your staff, so it might be a good time to roster some of the young guys arriving (particularly in Cleveland).
Other Injuries:
- Alex Wood (SP – SF): Hamstring strain – out multiple weeks
- Sandy Alcantara (SP – MIA): DTD with a biceps strain, though currently on track to make his next start
- Michael Grove (SP – LAD): Groin injury – on 15-day IL
- MJ Melendez (C, OF – KC): DTD with back injury
- Miguel Rojas (SS – LAD): Hamstring injury – on 10-day IL
- Yonathan Daza (OF – COL): Hand injury – considered DTD for now
- Jameson Taillon (SP – CHC): Groin injury – on 15-day IL
- Carlos Carrasco (SP – NYM): Elbow injury – on 15-day IL

Grifol on Anderson: "I was really excited with the day he had yesterday catching ground balls during BP, running, think he did four or five sprints, felt good, so I’m excited. He’ll go out for Minor League rehab, we’re just still talking about when. It shouldn’t be too long."
