Wednesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (9/2)
Cam Schlittler is a road warrior. According to FanGraphs, in 15 road tilts spanning 95 innings this year, New York’s ace has twirled a 1.14 ERA, 2.68 xFIP, 0.77 WHIP, 5.6% walk rate and 31.7% strikeout rate.
Schlittler has a juicy matchup and betting info tonight. The Angels are tied for 25th in wRC+ (94) with a 25.1% strikeout rate versus righties and 30th in wRC+ (80) with a 25.5% strikeout rate at home in 2025.
They are also 29th in wRC+ (76) with a 25.1% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days and 19th in wRC+ (87) with a 24.3% strikeout rate in the last 14 days. The Yankees are -170 favorites, and the game’s total is a pitcher-friendly seven runs.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto is rolling. In his last four starts, totaling 24.1 innings, the righty has logged the following numbers:
- 1 win
- 3 quality starts
- 1.48 ERA
- 2.56 xERA
- 2.74 xFIP
- 2.81 SIERA
- 0.95 WHIP
- 7.1% walk rate
- 32.7% strikeout rate
- 12.5% SwStr%
- 31.5% CSW%
- 102 stuff+
- 108 location+
- 110 pitching+
Yamamoto has a tantalizing matchup and betting info tonight. The Cardinals are 28th in wRC+ (93) with a 21.5% strikeout rate versus righties and tied for eighth in wRC+ (101) with a 21.6% strikeout rate on the road this year.
St. Louis is also 14th in wRC+ (100) with a 21.8% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days and 20th in wRC+ (86) with a 23.5% strikeout rate in the last 14 days.
In addition, talented rookie JJ Wetherholt landed on the injured list (IL) on August 30th, removing one of their best hitters from the equation. The Dodgers are -230 favorites, and the game’s total is 7.5 runs.
Houston’s righty edges out Reid Detmers for the best bargain SP2 on DraftKings. Hayden Wesneski was a little shaky in his first start of the year after spending most of the year on the IL, but he’s rounded into form in five August starts spanning 27 innings, tallying the following marks:
- 3 wins
- 2 quality starts
- 3.67 ERA
- 3.19 xERA
- 4.26 xFIP
- 4.29 SIERA
- 1.11 WHIP
- 9.3% walk rate
- 22.2% strikeout rate
- 12.2% SwStr%
- 24.9% CSW%
- 94 stuff+
- 98 location+
- 95 pitching+
Wesneski has a tricky matchup, albeit against a punchout-prone lineup. The White Sox are tied for ninth in wRC+ (103) with a 23.6% strikeout rate versus righties and 13th in wRC+ (99) with a 24.6% strikeout rate on the road this season.
Chicago is also third in wRC+ (112) with a 24.1% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days and 10th in wRC+ (104) with a 22.5% strikeout rate in the last 14 days. Despite the challenging matchup, the Astros are -130 favorites, and the game’s total is 8.5 runs.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
The Astros allowed a struggling right-handed pitcher to get back on track for the White Sox last night, getting tied up by Sean Burke. They have an even better matchup tonight and an opportunity to atone for last night’s lousy showing.
Davis Martin will return from the IL tonight. Martin was shockingly hot through the middle of May, but he’s turned into a pumpkin since the end of May. In his last 15 starts, totaling only 69 innings, Martin is responsible for the following numbers:
- 6.52 ERA
- 5.32 xERA
- 4.74 xFIP
- 4.85 SIERA
- 1.61 WHIP
- 9.2% walk rate
- 16.5% strikeout rate
- 9% SwStr%
- 23.5% CSW%
- 90 stuff+
- 88 location+
- 79 pitching+
Martin has been dreadful, and his plate discipline numbers and pitch modeling support his struggles. In addition, even with Martin’s hot start, he’s allowed a .324 wOBA to 221 right-handed batters and a .325 wOBA to 309 left-handed batters, enhancing the appeal of stacking the Astros since hitters of any handedness are stackable.
The Twins erupted for 15 runs last night in a more challenging matchup and can stay hot tonight against Drew Anderson. He’s made seven starts and 38 relief appearances this season.
The righty’s 2.43 ERA in seven starts is spectacular, but it’s not supported by his 4.01 xERA, 4.10 xFIP and 4.33 SIERA. The Twins should get the better of him tonight, and they have a number of cap-friendly options, too.

Core Studs

- Jose Altuve has been much better at home than on the road this season. In 234 plate appearances at home this year before last night’s contest, he hit 10 home runs with 37 runs, 27 RBI, four stolen bases, a .342 OBP, .196 ISO, .351 wOBA and 127 wRC+.
- Kody Clemens is having a career year at the plate. He’s ripped 24 round-trippers with 64 runs, 70 RBI, eight stolen bases, a .296 OBP, .234 ISO, .330 wOBA and 111 wRC+ in 492 plate appearances this season.

He’s hit a homer with three runs, three RBI, one stolen base, a .353 OBP, .286 ISO, .371 wOBA and 140 wRC+ through his first 17 plate appearances for the Twins.
- Isaac Paredes has mashed 18 taters with 55 runs, 74 RBI, a .355 OBP, .165 ISO, .344 wOBA and 122 wRC+ in 561 plate appearances in 2026.
- Kaelen Culpepper has hit three homers with 11 runs, nine RBI, a .373 OBP, .173 ISO, .377 wOBA and 144 wRC+ in 83 plate appearances in the Majors after demonstrating a power and speed combo (14 homers and 17 stolen bases) in Triple-A this season.
