Wednesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (9/9)
Cristopher Sanchez has been unreal at home. According to FanGraphs, in 17 home starts spanning 108 innings in 2026, the lefty ace has spun a 1.83 ERA, 2.59 xFIP, 1.11 WHIP, 6.5% walk rate and 27.5% strikeout rate.
Sanchez’s matchup is decent, and his betting info is rock-solid. The Astros are 12th in wRC+ (98) with a 21% strikeout rate versus lefties and tied for fifth in wRC+ (102) with a 20.1% strikeout rate on the road in 2026. However, Houston is in a rut, ranking 27th in wRC+ (78) with a 22.8% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days and 24th in wRC+ (87) with a 22.4% strikeout rate in the last 14 days. The Phillies are -160 favorites, and the game’s total is eight runs.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto is in pristine form entering tonight’s start. In his previous four starts, totaling 25.2 innings, the Dodgers’ stud has posted the following statistics:
- 1 win
- 3 quality starts
- 2.81 ERA
- 2.44 xERA
- 2.44 xFIP
- 2.53 SIERA
- 0.94 WHIP
- 5.9% walk rate
- 33.7% strikeout rate
- 15.2% SwStr%
- 33.1% CSW%
- 103 stuff+
- 109 location+
- 111 pitching+
Yamamoto’s matchup and betting info are drool-inducing. The Reds are 29th in wRC+ (89) with a 25.6% strikeout rate versus righties and tied for 21st in wRC+ (93) with a 24.3% strikeout rate on the road this season.
Cincinnati is also tied for 22nd in wRC+ (93) with a 25.9% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days, albeit second in wRC+ (125) with a 24.9% strikeout rate in the last 14 days. Nevertheless, the Dodgers are -300 favorites, and the game’s total is 8.5 runs.
Shane Baz has a tasty matchup tonight. The Guardians are 23rd in wRC+ (96) with a 21% strikeout rate versus righties and tied for 25th in wRC+ (89) with a 21.5% strikeout rate on the road this season. Cleveland is also tied for 20th in wRC+ (95) with a 17.6% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days and tied for 22nd in wRC+ (92) with a 19.9% strikeout rate in the last 14 days.
Baz’s past five starts spanning 27 innings feature the following mixed numbers:
- 1 win
- 2 quality starts
- 4.67 ERA
- 3.57 xERA
- 4.53 xFIP
- 4.46 SIERA
- 1.41 WHIP
- 9.5% walk rate
- 21.6% strikeout rate
- 10.1% SwStr%
- 26.4% CSW%
- 95 stuff+
- 105 location+
- 103 pitching+
No matter the ERA estimator, Baz has been unlucky. His xERA indicates he’s been very unlucky, while his xFIP and SIERA indicate he’s been only moderately unlucky. Baz isn’t an appealing selection at FanDuel, but he’s a desirable SP2 in all game types at his bargain salary on DraftKings.
Suggested Lineup Stacks
A bit of housekeeping before we get into why the Yankees are an appealing offense to stack. First, Aaron Judge might get the night off, and he’s a risk to get lifted early as part of a ramp-up plan if he starts. Second, Jazz Chisholm Jr. was removed early last night with a thumb injury. If there’s a silver lining for one or both of Judge and Chisholm sitting tonight, it would be the potential for the Bronx Bombers to be a less popular stack in a dreamy matchup.
Tomoyuki Sugano was running pure early in the season, but the other shoe has dropped lately. He has been torched for an 8.25 ERA, 5.70 xERA, 4.23 xFIP and 4.35 SIERA in his previous five starts, serving up 1.88 HR/9. Even with good fortune earlier this season, Sugano has coughed up a .342 wOBA to 251 right-handed batters and a .378 wOBA to 315 left-handed batters this season.
Reynaldo Lopez has outkicked his ERA estimators, splitting time between the rotation and the bullpen, with 13 starts and 11 relief appearances. His 3.64 ERA is in contrast to his 4.65 xERA, 4.40 xFIP and 4.30 SIERA.
Lopez is also coming off the injured list (IL), and he hasn’t appeared in a game for the Braves since July 26th. The Rays are an appealing stack against a player due for regression who could also be rusty coming off the IL.

Core Studs

- Griffin Conine has launched 18 long balls with a .351 OBP, .235 ISO, .396 wOBA and 131 wRC+ in 339 career plate appearances against righties since reaching the Majors in 2024.

- Richie Palacios has hit 14 home runs with a .343 OBP, .126 ISO, .317 wOBA and 106 wRC+ in 615 plate appearances against right-handed pitching since 2024.
