DraftKings Review & Promo Code

By Matthew Davis

When it comes to daily fantasy sports (DFS), there are many options to choose from. We’ve put together several reviews of a few of those options so you can get a better idea which site is the best fit for you. Here we take a look at DraftKings by evaluating their game offerings, scoring, user interface, and more.

Overview

DraftKings is one of the leaders in daily fantasy sports, and has taken the industry by storm. Being one of the top three sites in DFS isn’t easy, and they reached this level with excellent customer service, a user-friendly site/app, along with the largest DFS tournaments in the world.

DraftKings started with executives Paul Liberman, Jason Robins, and Matthew Kalish. In 2012 they jumped into the DFS world and quickly evolved their venture. They are still finding ways to differentiate themselves from their competitors, as they are the only major site that offers MMA, PGA, and NASCAR.

DraftKings Contests

A variety of different contests for every major sport is offered. DraftKings’ games are salary cap driven, which gives everybody the opportunity to construct their lineup the way they want. The buy-in range begins with free contests and goes up to $5,200. They welcome any type of player and if you’re just starting out, those free contests are a good way to get your feet wet before paying money to enter into a contest.

You can play an opponent head-to-head, create or enter into a league that ranges from five players and up, join 50/50 leagues where half the field cashes or play in the most popular of them all, the large field tournaments (Guaranteed Prize Pools). They also offer qualifiers into special contests or live event finals that can only be earned by taking down one of their satellite tournaments.

DraftKings takes pride and holds the throne when it comes to Guaranteed Prize Pools (GPPs). They are quickly changing the game and will be releasing the largest DFS tournament to date with their NFL $10M Millionaire Maker. The first placer winner will pull in an astounding $2 million.

Scoring & Roster Rules

DraftKings’ scoring system is typically higher than their competitors, which makes the games all the more fun, as it’s easy to get excited about scoring points. They make the scoring and roster rules easy for you to view and explain all the details. Some websites don’t allow you to make any substitutions once the first game is live. DraftKings found another way to be innovative by allowing a “late swap”, which gives you the ability to remove anyone from your lineup whose game has not yet started, replacing him with another eligible player who also hasn’t started playing. This can be very useful if a player is scratched late or a game has weather implications.

DraftKings’ NFL and College Football scoring system are similar to other sites but add a twist with their bonus scoring. In each contest, participants are provided a $50,000 salary cap to draft their entire roster. Check out a full view of their scoring and rules.

All salary caps are $50,000 with the roster size different in each sport.

Interface & User Experience

DraftKings is personally my favorite when it comes to the overall experience, design and usability. The website and app are easy to navigate and very user-friendly. They have up to the minute live scoring that shows your current winnings along with a detailed look inside your contests. Filters, tabs, and columns make it quick and easy for you to find the contest you’re looking for.

Rake

Rake is an important DFS term that every DFS player should be familiar with. Rake is the fee (i.e. commission) that a DFS site takes in exchange for running a contest. Every time you enter a DFS contest, part of your entry fee goes to the prize pool, with a small percentage going to the DFS site.

RAKE = (Total Buy-Ins – Total Prizes)/(Total Buy-Ins)

Total Buy-Ins = Buy-In Amount * Number of Entrants

DraftKings rake starts at 10% for buy-ins from $2 to $50 and goes down in percentage as the buy-in increases. The rake levels below are pretty standard in the DFS industry.

 Buy-in   Rake
 $2 to $50  10.00%
 $109  8.26%
 $215  6.98%
 $530  5.66%

Deposit Bonuses

DraftKings offers a 100% Deposit Bonus up to $600! That is one of the best deposit bonus offers in the entire DFS industry. The deposit bonus is released at a 4% rate over time. You will receive $1 for every 100 FPPs (Frequent Player Points) you earn. You earn those FPPs by entering into any paid contest. The higher the contest costs to enter, the more FPPs you earn.

Be sure to use our link to receive your DraftKings 100% deposit bonus. They will also give new depositors a free entry into one of their upcoming contests. It’s a great way to get acquainted to daily fantasy sports in a no-risk game.

Conclusion

DraftKings’ prize pools are bigger than anybody in the business with life-changing amounts of money if you take down one of their large field tournaments. DraftKings has exclusive partnerships where they can offer unique contests that give you once-in-a-lifetime experiences. You can throw out the first pitch at a baseball game, sit in a luxury suite or win a meet-and-greet experience with your favorite team. DraftKings offers a variety of sports that other sites don’t and will continue finding new ways to make the DFS experience a great one. If you haven’t joined them yet, be sure to get in on the fun and become part of the DFS community.
