Notes
I expect more but 200K potential in a 162 season still gets my attention. I am higher than most on Nola but I see potential here.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
There's a lot of focus on the second-half performance of Yu Darvish, one in which he allowed just seven walks over his final 13 starts, but not a lot on his dreadful first three months of the season, where he was at best a streamer who was walking everyone. Maybe he figured it out, but the whole is a greater sample than selected stretches. For Darvish, you're likely looking at a player who will be somewhere in between. He'll be a strikeout artist, but he'll be an average pitcher who is fine - not great - in the other categories. If his first half of the season in 2019 happened in the second half of the season instead, we'd be looking at him as a late-round flyer at best.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Aaron Nola is one of the more polarizing players in fantasy baseball, but if you're looking for a dependable pitcher who can give you not just volume, but good volume, you shouldn't be too quick to discount what Nola brings to the table. He consistently goes six and seven innings, and he's one year removed from being a legitimate Cy Young candidate. If the baseball returns to its normal form, you should see Nola return to that Cy Young level, too.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Darvish's season was a tale of two halves. He was utterly unplayable to begin the season, tallying a 1.56 WHIP through May and walking roughly six batters per nine innings. But Darvish pulled out of it and then some, walking only seven batters over his final 14 starts, during which he had a 2.95 ERA and 0.83 WHIP. Can you fully trust Darvish? Probably not? But should you expect him to pitch closer to his second half than his first? For sure.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Nola simply wasn't very good in 2019. His control took a major step back and batters consistently made better contact against him, particularly against his fastball. Whether it was an aberration for the youngster after two years of major growth, or whether perhaps Nola isn't as good as previously thought, is an open question. But given how drastically his control dipped, fantasy owners would be wise to give Nola somewhat of a pass for his 2019. He can't be drafted as an ace, but as a second starter? Go for it.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Which Yu Darvish will we get? If if it second half 2019 Darvish, he will blow his ADP out of the water, if it is first half 2019 Darvish, he will be a big loss of investment. Honestly know way of knowing, just depends if you want to take the risk or not.
Michael Petropoulos - BRoto Fantasy
Started slow and finished poorly. However, if you're a believer you can cling to a four-month stretch where Nola posted a 2.96 ERA with 10.2 K/9
Brendan Tuma - BettingPros
From July 12th through the end of the year Darvish posted a 2.76 ERA with 118 strikeouts and just seven walks
