Notes
For years, Rendon was the poster boy for the most underrated player in fantasy. Coming off his career year, he's underrated no more. Now the price that you have to pay for him leaves very little room for a net gain, and in order for him to return a positive ROI, you need him to replicate his 2019 numbers, which were, by the way, career highs across the board, aside from stolen bases. He's also taking an L with the switch in ballparks in every major ballpark factor. The position is deep, and while Rendon is safe here, you're banking on a lot in order to get a solid return from your second-round pick.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
You're drafting Baez for one thing right now, and that's power. The speed? Major drop-off from 2018 to 2019. The walks? Ha, that's cute. The success that Baez has had the past two years has resulted in everything going exactly right for him, but with the skill set that he has, the margin for error is razor-thin. There are many players that offer the same skills that Baez had who can be had for a much better draft cost - especially considering the position that he plays.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Rendon finally put it all together last year, setting career-highs in batting average (.319), home runs (34), runs scored (117), and RBI (126). He'll now move to Anaheim where he'll see a downgrade in park, but an upgrade in lineup by the sheer presence of Mike Trout. In the end, Rendon's move is a neutral one, and to the extent you trust him to stay healthy again, he's a rock-solid second round pick.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
The shortstop position is so loaded that Baez' 29 homers, 11 steals and .281 batting average didn't even get him into the top 12 at the position last year. He is still well worth a third or fourth round pick, however, because the bat and speed are both reliable.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
While Rendon may be the best overall third basemen in real life, walks and defense don't translate to fantasy. Rather, we are looking at a player without speed but one whose 4-category bat makes him a strong second round pick for the 2020 season.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
I love the skill set while I hate that the Cubs only attempted 69 stolen base attempts in 2019 - 2nd least in all of baseball. Baez would be a top 10 pick if not for the Cubs refusal to run. That reality drops Baez down. 2019 wasn't a down year, it was a reflection of the Cubs approach to scoring runs by refusing to run.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
Great baseball player, contributes BA, which is rare these days, but no steals and one big career home run season? I am not buying in on 2020.
