Notes
It was announced that Chapman tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, July 11th. With less than two weeks left until the regular season, it seems unlikely that he'll begin the year on the active roster. With that said, it remains unclear exactly how long he'll miss and given Chapman's potential, he shouldn't slip beyond the top 10 closers in drafts.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Is Jose Berrios overrated a little bit every year? Yeah, definitely. Berrios can be inconsistent from start to start, and you want more when you watch him pitch and he's on. That said, while he may not be an ace, he's one hell of an SP2 to have on your roster. You want guys who are going to give you 200 innings and a good strikeout rate. Berrios checks those boxes, even with the occasional bad start.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Paying the premium for a closer isn't advised, because replicating that success from year to year - especially for breakout pitchers at the position - is tough to do. But when you have a closer who has been a top-tier option year after year, he's one of the few who are worth the investment. Chapman isn't the lights-out closer that he was in the past, but he's as safe of a bet that there is to finish top 3 at the position. That, alone, makes him worth the price.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Berrios reached 200 innings but didn't really take the step forward that most fantasy owners had hoped for. His strikeout rate dropped, his WHIP increased, and batters made better contact. Still, Berrios was a pitcher who fantasy owners could start each and every time out, contributed well in wins, and rarely walked batters. When you add it all up, Berrios remains a starter that fantasy owners should covet, but perhaps temper expectations until he shows that he's ready to take that next step.
