Notes
Because he stalled in Triple-A and was blocked by a crowded Pirates outfield, Meadows' arrival came later than anticipated. Yet he promptly made up for lost time, storming out of the gate with a 1.221 OPS, four homers, and three steals in May. He then struggled and lost playing time before and after a midseason trade to Tampa Bay. This time, however, he clobbered Triple-A pitchers to 10 dingers in 27 games after offering 12 in 636 prior Triple-A plate appearances for the Pirates. Don't forget that Meadows, once considered an elite prospect, still boasts an enticing power and speed profile. Plus, he only turns 24 in May. He could go 20/15 in an untethered starting role.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
It is too bad we can't track web gems for fantasy baseball because Simmons just isn't as valuable in fantasy. Despite the lack of power, he doesn't offer some value in the fact that he should hit in the .280s with double-digit steals and near 70 runs scored.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
The Pirates had him buried on their depth chart for what seemed like forever thanks to the presence of Andrew McCutchen, Gregory Polanco and Starling Marte. Now that he has been freed to Tampa Bay (with Tyler Glasnow) in the Chris Archer trade, we will finally get to see the kid shine. Meadows was once considered a future all-star, and while he likely won't venture into that territory any time soon, if at all, we are looking at someone who, even as a rookie, should hold a mediocre batting average while contributing in all four of the other roto categories.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Simmons is the very definition of a boring draft pick, but he's finished as top-12 shortstop in roto/categories leagues in two of the last three seasons. He will provide a solid batting average and should chip in some steals as well.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Simmons gets slept on because he doesn't stuff a single category, but don't overlook his contact skills. His microscopic 7.3% strikeout rate bested all qualified hitters last season, resulting in a .292 batting average. Yet a rise in value hit rate (10.3%) led xStats to ascribe an even higher .313 xBA. Having stolen 19 bases in 2017, last year's 10 represents a floor rather than the ceiling. He's a boring player to roster during the season, but he'll end up delivering a positive ROI with a high average flanked by around 10 homers and 10-15 steals.
