Notes
Better pitcher than some of the others ahead of him but I don't trust him to be consistent. Go big or go home is one way to look at it and if that's your way, move Snell up 20 picks. I am a steady as we go guy and Snell is riskier than I feel good about .
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
Nelson Cruz falls in every draft, in every year, for the past four to five years. It's because he's ancient in baseball years, and only David Ortiz remains undefeated against Father Time. It also hurts that Cruz is DH only, but production is production. If you're looking at Yordan Alvarez in the first few rounds of the draft, you'd be better suited to wait a few rounds and take Cruz for as good - if not better - production. That is, assuming this isn't year where it all falls apart.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
You need to pull the trigger on a starter eventually. With Snell, there's no debating the ace-type ceiling that he has - look at his 2018 season if you need further proof - but so far, that's been the big outlier for him. He's dealt with a rash of injuries, which has forced the Rays to limit his workload. In Spring Training, he was dealing with elbow soreness. He's a high-risk, high-reward pick this year. You've been warned.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
If you removed Cruz's age from the equation, he'd be a top pick in fantasy. Despite missing nearly a quarter of the season to injury last year, he again put up elite numbers, topping 40 home runs and 100 RBI while batting .311. Cruz will be 40 this year, never plays the field and is starting to miss more time to injuries. But he's essentially forgotten in most drafts and has shown very little skills decline. Don't shy away from him on draft day even though he clogs your utility spot.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Snell's subpar season was limited to just 107 innings after he underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery. Although owners might want to shy away after last year, there were plenty of encouraging signs. His FIP and xFIP were roughly a run lower than his ERA, his 33.3% strikeout rate was actually an improvement on his breakout year, and batters continued to make incredibly weak contact. If healthy, he should return to dominance.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Hit .311 with 41 homers last year. Entering age-39 season
Brendan Tuma - BettingPros
Easy bounce-back candidate. Would've led baseball in swinging strike rate if he had the innings to qualify
