Notes
Harper may have posted just a .249 batting average in 2018, but the rest of his fantasy production was tremendous, plus his underlying metrics indicate the average returning closer to the .270 mark in 2019. His fantasy value improved when he signed with Philly because their ballpark is great for lefties, but he is still just a 2nd round pick.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
After obliterating pitchers in 2017, Stanton cooled off in a big way last year, striking out 211 times and hitting just .266 with 38 homers. There is upside for 60+ bombs this year, but believe it or not, he has only hit 40 or more once his entire career
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
After scaring fantasy owners with rumors that he could sign with the Giants, Harper ultimately stuck with the original plan and ended up in a great hitting environment in Philadelphia. The move is unquestionably a good one for his fantasy value, but there is still a lot of uncertainty about what kind of numbers to expect from Harper. Over the last four seasons, he has two years where he's hit over .315 and two where he's hit under .250. He's also hit as many as 42 HRs and as few as 24, and stolen as many as 21 bases and as few as four. Harper always contributes enough production to be a prized fantasy asset, but he only has one season on his resume where he's earned first round value. He could be a bit overrated now that he's signed with the Phillies.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Stanton was never likely to match the 59 home runs he hit in 2017, even after moving from a pitcher's park in Miami to a hitter's paradise in the Bronx. Still, hitting 38 long balls -- while also topping the century mark in both runs and RBIs -- is nothing to sneeze at. Stanton's 2017 power output seems like a distinct outlier, but the fact remains that the park upgrade should help his chances of reaching the 40 HR mark in any given season. However, it's important to recognize that his reduced strikeout rate in 2017 is also an outlier -- he's unlikely to hit much better than .260 as long as he's striking out in nearly 30 percent of his plate appearances.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
A wide dissonance remains from what drafters want from Harper and what he typically delivers. With batting averages of .330, .243, .319, and .249 over the last four years, there's a steep range of outcomes for a perennial top pick averaging 32 homers and 11 steals in that stretch. His latest drop came with a career-low 70.8% contact rate, so count on a compromise to around .270 rather than a full rebound. Now that he has signed with the Phillies, he should belt closer to 35-40 long balls with the help of Citizens Bank Park. The ideal landing spot pushes him up to early second-round territory, and it wouldn't be surprising to see some drafters grab him late in the first.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Stanton's ISO dropped .107 points, and he was still pretty good. Spoiled Yankees fans got antsy all 211 times he struck out, but the star slugger still smashed 38 homers with a .360 wOBA. After spending years worrying about his health, it was encouraging to see him play 158 games (mostly at DH), which allowed him to compile 100 RBI and 102 runs in a stacked lineup. He gave back most of 2017's contact gains, so expect a batting average closer to 2018's .266. Now that durability isn't a pressing concern, that's good enough for drafters to take his bankable power-even if we're talking 40 instead of 60 homers-to close out the second round.
