Notes
By this point, we all know the answer to the Mike Trout vs. Harper discussion, but that doesn't mean that Harper still isn't one hell of a player. Was he pressing early in Philadelphia with the pressure of a new contract in a new city? I think he was, as his second-half numbers show quite the turnaround, especially with his strikeout rate. His xBA and xwOBA also indicate that Harper underperformed last season. It should surprise no one if Harper were to contend for an MVP this season. He should be bumped up higher in OBP leagues.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Ignore the eligibility concerns. Ignore the cheating scandal. Don't totally ignore the knees, but do pay attention to the results. Alvarez put on a historic performance last year across the majors and minors, and there's really nothing to his profile that suggests it wasn't all legit. Before last season, he was really good in the minors, but not quite this good. Fortunately, we can chalk that up to another year of development. Alvarez won't give you steals, but the rest of the numbers are up there with the elite options in fantasy. Yeah, we're talking about a top-five pick if he does it again. He has the pedigree, and he's had the success early in his career.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Unlike Aaron Judge, who is also going at the end of the second round, Harper has only missed 8 games in the last two seasons. He might not have as much power or the reliable batting average, but there is something to be said for health and the extra 10 steals.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
It was just an 87 game sample size but in that time, Yordan was clearly one of the top five hitters in baseball. He won't steal any bags, but 50 homers, 140 RBIs and a .320 batting average is within the realm of realistic possibilities. He comes with some risk, however, since we haven't seen it for an extended time.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Harper is almost a lock for 30 home runs and double-digit steals. He hasn't been Mike Trout's equal, as many expected after the High School SI cover, but that doesn't mean he isn't an elite Fantasy player. His ADP doesn't reflect how high his floor is or the potential for a 40/20 season. 2020 is a big year for Harper in the Philly Band Box.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
Yordan is getting the sophomore discount, meaning you don't have to pay up to get top five player potential. If all goes well, Alvarez will be a monster in all areas except SBs. Perfect third round pick if looking for upside and power. Hits the ball ridiculously hard.
Michael Petropoulos - BRoto Fantasy
Not a big fan of Harper (He is overrated), but he does have some big time potential going into his second year in Philly. If he gets his average up to 280+ he should be a high end five category contributor.
