Notes
Santana had some of the worst BABIP luck in baseball last year so you can expect his batting average to jump back into the .250s this year to go with his usual 20+ homers and 80+ runs. That makes him a quality late-round corner infielder as always.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Senzel can't catch a break. Shortly after getting optioned to Triple-A, he suffered a sprained ankle that will sideline him for a few weeks to start the season. That derails his chances of replacing the injured Scooter Gennett (groin) at second base. Most scouts believe the 23-year-old can make an immediate mark, but injuries and a crowded Reds lineup could continue to delay his anticipated debut. The latest setback makes it tougher to stash him in standard mixed leagues.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
A smooth selection (sorry) for OBP managers, Santana batted .229 after back-to-back .259 campaigns. He actually slashed his strikeout rate (13.7%) for the fourth straight season with a gaudy 16.2% walk rate. Having exceeded 600 plate appearances in each of the last eight seasons, he's an excellent compiler who could again broach 80 runs and RBI apiece with around 25 home runs. That will make him a sharp corner infielder if his batting average repairs closer to his career .247 mark, which matches last season's xBA on Statcast. He added third-base eligibility (19 games) in some leagues and could gain outfield during the season.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
It remains an open question whether Senzel will make the Opening Day roster, and if so where -- the Reds are currently giving him a look in centerfield. Senzel has shown the ability to hit over .300 at every minor league level while also providing a bit of power and speed. Once he's able to earn regular playing time in Cincinnati, it's not hard to see Senzel producing 20-25 homers and 10-15 steals over a full season, along with a solid batting average. He could follow a similar career trajectory to Anthony Rendon.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Fantasy owners were disappointed to get nothing out of Senzel at the MLB level last year, but they shouldn't give up hope. Rather, barring another series of injuries, he will be with the big league club, weather in Cincy, Miami, San Diego or Cleveland (pending potential trades) rather quickly. He is a true five-tool player and could end up qualifying at 2B, 3B, SS and OF.
