Notes
Last year, fantasy managers were trying to decide between Freddy Peralta, Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff. We know who the clear winner was. If Woodruff didn't miss time with an oblique injury, there's no telling how good he'd be. The Brewers bullpen will be relied upon heavily with their other starters, so expect Woodruff to be the go-to length pitcher for them this year.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Is there a need to make a case against a 34-year-old pitcher? Typically, no, as you expect the end to be near. With Corey Kluber, not only is his age going against him, but he missed all but seven starts last season with a broken arm thanks to a come-backer. What's more, it's not like he was dominant in those starts (slow starter throughout his career, yada yada), but he posted a 5.80 ERA and was flipped for Emmanuel Clase and Delino DeShields in the off-season. This is one of the times where the real-life market for a player should impact your decision to take him in fantasy. His days of being an ace are over.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Woodruff earned his breakout 2019, relying on his elite fastball to limit hard contact and avoid big innings. His solid control allows him to keep the line moving, and the Brewers' strong lineup adds to his win potential. Although he missed a large chunk of the season due to injury, he should be ready to lead the Brewers rotation this year, and can and should be drafted as a strong second-tier starter.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Kluber showed some skills decline in 2018, but nothing could have prepared fantasy owners for the disaster that was 2019. He got off to a terrible start before a broken forearm ended his season. Now with the Rangers, Kluber will get a fresh start and look to rebuild some of his real and fantasy value. Throw out the 5.80 ERA and 1.65 WHIP from last year - Kluber hasn't declined to that extent. Expect him to provide very solid, albeit not pristine, numbers, if he can stay healthy.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
