Notes
Gordon is going to absolutely destroy you in two categories and his batting average isn't anything to write home about. With that said, the potential of 60 stolen bases makes him worth the price of admission toward the middle of drafts.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Dozier may not have had the best season last year, but he still hit 21 homers with 12 steals. The batting average is expected to rise in 2019 and let's not forget that he has 40 homer, 20 steal upside.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Gordon averaged around 60 steals per season from 2014-2017, but that number plummeted to 30 steals in 141 games last season. The .268 batting average he produced last season is probably due for some positive correction into the .280 range, but Gordon is a major drag in the HR and RBI categories, so he'll need to get his stolen base total back up into the 50-60 range to be worth deploying in standard 5x5 leagues of 12 teams or fewer. It's tough to say whether that will happen as Gordon approaches 31 years old, so he's a boom-or-bust selection if he goes in the single digit rounds of fantasy drafts.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Coming off back-to-back seasons as a top-25 overall player in standard 5x5 leagues, Dozier really struggled in 2018, hitting just .215 while both his HR and SB totals fell as well. It was an all-around frustrating season, but there are plenty of reasons for optimism for a rebound. Dozier's batted ball profile remained basically the same as past seasons, but his BABIP was much lower than usual. He also had to adjust to the National League midway through the season, and was playing through a bone bruise that likely impacted his performance. Now healthy and a bit more familiar with NL pitchers, Dozier will be a good value in fantasy drafts if he comes anywhere close to his past level of performance.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Gordon is great at running, but not quite as good at reaching base. Despite the complete lack of power, his profile was palatable when consisting of a high average, plethora of runs, and 60 steals. Last season, however, he batted .268 with 62 runs and 30 steals. He was caught stealing (12) more times than he walked (nine), and the 30-year-old can't afford as many misfires with a .288 OBP. His Statcast speed score (29.0) didn't drop much from 2017 (29.0), so it's possible he bounces back to 40-45 steals if a few more dribbles roll his way. It's probably not worth the risk unless desperate for speed.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
It was a lost year for Dozier, and he still came out with 21 homers and 12 steals. That wasn't worth much when paired with a .215 batting average, but the second baseman said he was playing through a knee injury all season. In two seasons before the 2018 downturn, he hit .269 with a combined 76 blasts and 34 steals. Banking on a health-enabled rebound is an interesting risk for those who can risk a subpar average or play in an OBP/points league.
