Notes
He needs to do what I think he can do, but that lack of proof hasn't prevented me from ranking him where I think he deserves to be. He has 200K full-season stuff that the 60 game sprint should make even more valuable. I like the schedule and the parks he will pitch in too.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
Luzardo has tested positive for COVID-19, though there have been few details as to his reported symptoms (or lack thereof). A prime breakout candidate, especially given the delay and the lack of an innings limit, Luzardo's fantasy stock is now in a bit of a grey area. Monitor the reports but be prepared to knock him down a few pegs in your draft absent positive reports on his health.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Lamet has one amazing pitch right now, and there's a chance they he can take the next step forward to become a top 25 pitcher. But if you're going to draft Robbie Ray, Jr., why not just draft Robbie Ray?
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
It's not if Luzardo will pitch any innings for the A's this year, it's how how many? With the short season, will he be limited to four- to five-inning outings? He's a wild card with a bright future.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Lamet is a popular breakout candidate this year, after he returned from Tommy John surgery to throw 73 innings of solid baseball last year. Lamet is still much more potential than numbers - he hasn't dominated a level above A-ball and has questionable control. But his raw stuff, particularly his slider and curveball, are impressive, and he can miss bats with the best of them. They'll be no discount for Lamet this year, but if you're looking for upside, he's worth the gamble.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
I want to move Lazardo further up these rankings because of his lights-out arsenal and pitching in Oakland helps those ratio's, but rookie innings limits are real and I am concerned that he won't pitch enough to reach his enormous ceiling. Guarantee me 210 innings pitched and he is a Top 40 Pick for me. I expect more like 130-150 and with some rookie struggles, that drops him down significantly. 2021 he will be hotter than Walker Buehler was.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
I am a little confused about all the Dinelson Lamet love. I know he has nasty stuff, but he is now 27 years old, he had Tommy John Surgery in 2018 and he has never pitched more than 150 innings in any year of his major league career. He has also shown inconsistencies. Drafting him over a guy like Matt Boyd, for example, is crazy to me.
Michael Petropoulos - BRoto Fantasy
Should be elite whenever he pitches. It's fair to wonder how deep he pitches into games and how many starts he ultimately makes
Brendan Tuma - BettingPros
Only has two plus pitches and might eventually profile best as a reliever
