Notes
How why are you willing to take a guy who batted .186 last season? Turns out the answer is pretty high for Sanchez, who's challenging J.T. Realmuto as the top catcher off the board. He did, after all, hit .284/.354/.568 in 754 prior MLB plate appearances. A groin injury also hampered his production, and he additionally underwent offseason shoulder surgery. He struggled mightily against breaking balls, but actually deposited more walks without significant contact declines. The average could easily rise back to .250 with around 30 long balls, but is that enough to justify an investment around pick 60? Catcher is worse than usual, but that's still too steep in one-catcher formats.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
We've seen enough of Conforto by now to know that the hype was overblown. Sure, he has had some extremely promising stretches, but over a full year of health in 2018, he wasn't as good as Randal Grichuk who is going over 100 picks later because of the difference in name value.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Sanchez flashed his sky-high fantasy upside in 2017, when he hit .278 with 33 HRs and 90 RBIs -- truly difference-making numbers at fantasy baseball's weakest position. But he displayed his risky floor in 2018, as he hit just .186 and played in only 89 games due to nagging groin and shoulder injuries. Sanchez is due for a good bit of positive batting average regression following last year's anemic .197 BABIP, and there is little doubt he can again top 30 home runs if he remains healthy. He is certainly a risk/reward option, but he's easily a top-two fantasy catcher heading into 2019 and could be a decent value in drafts coming off a down year.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
With 55 home runs over the last two seasons and now entering his age-26 season, Conforto has the makings of a consistent 30-HR guy, but he is unlikely to hit much higher than .250 and doesn't provide many stolen bases. Those limitations cap his upside, at least until he's able to make more consistent contact.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
There is no getting past the fact that Sanchez was a train wreck last season., batting .186 with only 18 homers. With that said, he is still just 26 years old and we are talking about the fastest player to ever reach 50 homers in the MLB. Chance are high that he will bounce back in the batting average department, and if he can stay healthy, bank on 25 to 40 homers making him well worth a 7th or 8th round pick.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Although he returned sooner than expected from shoulder surgery, perhaps Conforto needed more recovery time. He entered the All-Star break batting .216 with a .366 slugging percentage. On the strength of nine September homers, he closed the second half by hitting .273 with a .539 slugging clip. He proved capable of handling fellow lefties (.345 wOBA) and finished a seemingly lost year with 28 long balls. Now healthy and ready for Opening Day, Conforto is a strong bet for 30 homers with a higher batting average if he regains past hard-hit standards prior to injuring his shoulder. This could be the last chance to snag him at a discount.
