Notes
Is it really hard to make a case against Jonathan Villar in 2020? I mean, we were fooled just a few years ago with Villar, and he was the biggest bust in fantasy the following year. Why are we doing it again? Sure, he gives you speed, but there's nothing else that you can really bank on. The ballpark change is tough, and if Villar can't adjust in the outfield, he could just be an over-hyped utility-man.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Fluke. That's the best word to use to describe Anderson's 2019 season. Now, do I think he'll be bad in 2020? No, I don't. But, there's no chance Anderson leads the league in batting average again. Anderson is a career .276 hitter, and he hit .335 last year. If you look at his xBA, though, it was .294, making his gap between his expected average and actual average the fourth-largest in baseball. To be fair, .294 is one hell of a mark, but looking around .270-.280 is more realistic for Anderson. He'll be leading off for a great lineup, so his runs should be high, but looking at his exit velocity (36th percentile) and hard hit rate (39th percentile), we should temper expectations of a 20-homer season. It hurts Anderson that he plays shortstop, which along with third base, is the deepest position in fantasy this year. He's an easy fade this year given the other options at the position.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Villar is moving from a great hitter's park to one of the worst but we are still talking about someone who went 24/40 homers/steals with 111 runs and a .273 batting average. There is some risk, as we saw in the 2017 disappointment
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Anderson missed 40 games last year but still nearly went 20/20 with 81 runs. If that was all, it would have been a killer season but he also happened to bat .335 for the Sox. We can expect that to drop to near or even below .300 this year but that is still a great buy around the 8th round.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Batted over 700(!!) times last season playing half his games in Camden. He moves from one of the best hitter parks to one of the worst. The 24 HRs should drop back down to 15 or so and another 40 steal season would shock me. This guy has been cut multiple times and a 260/12/25 line would not shock me at all. I am letting someone else take the plunge with Villar.
