Notes
We've seen the absolute floor and absolute ceiling for Ramírez in 2019, and man, was it the tell of two seasons for him. Even with the early-season struggles, Ramírez posted a 23-homer, 24-steal season. Just because he struggled in the first part of the 2019 season doesn't mean he'll struggle in the first part of this season, but it also doesn't mean that he'll post the numbers that he posted in the latter months of the 2019 season. Still, the production is worth the slight risk.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
For years, Rendon was the poster boy for the most underrated player in fantasy. Coming off his career year, he's underrated no more. Now the price that you have to pay for him leaves very little room for a net gain, and in order for him to return a positive ROI, you need him to replicate his 2019 numbers, which were, by the way, career highs across the board, aside from stolen bases. He's also taking an L with the switch in ballparks in every major ballpark factor. The position is deep, and while Rendon is safe here, you're banking on a lot in order to get a solid return from your second-round pick.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Ramirez's overall 2019 season was obviously subpar, as much as a 23-homer, 24-steal year can be. He batted just .218 in the first half with a mere seven home runs, and his fantasy value was saved only by his 18 first-half steals. But he looked closer to his old self in the second half, batting .327 with an 1.105 OPS. Whether it was him trying to do too much in the first half or something related to his newborn child (his surge happened to coincide with his return from paternity leave), Ramirez's return to normalcy in the second half should give you plenty of confidence in his 2020 outlook.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Rendon finally put it all together last year, setting career-highs in batting average (.319), home runs (34), runs scored (117), and RBI (126). He'll now move to Anaheim where he'll see a downgrade in park, but an upgrade in lineup by the sheer presence of Mike Trout. In the end, Rendon's move is a neutral one, and to the extent you trust him to stay healthy again, he's a rock-solid second round pick.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Ramirez is certainly an interesting case because he only finished 15th among fantasy third basemen in 2019 but finished the year so strong that many are remembering why he was a first round pick to begin with. Ramirez is a near-ock to go 20/20 again but with upside for that majestic 40/35 season with a strong average.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
While Rendon may be the best overall third basemen in real life, walks and defense don't translate to fantasy. Rather, we are looking at a player without speed but one whose 4-category bat makes him a strong second round pick for the 2020 season.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Strange 2019 and yet still a very productive one. 25/15/.280 feels like his Floor with 30/25/.300 as a reachable Ceiling. Safe and yet elite. That pushes him this high and justifiably higher for owners that aren't buying into the idea that SP is thin and needs to be poached earlier than in past years.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
Great baseball player, contributes BA, which is rare these days, but no steals and one big career home run season? I am not buying in on 2020.
