Notes
Elite pitching means more in 60 than 162. That's why Scherzer is ahead of elite sluggers like Bregman and Arenado. I expect a bounceback from 2019's relatively disappointing, but still very good year.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
Strange 2019 and yet still a very productive one. 25/15/.280 feels like his Floor with 30/25/.300 as a reachable Ceiling in a standard 162 game year. Adjust the math for 60 and you got a Top 10 dual-threat guy. Safe and yet elite. That pushes him this high and justifiably higher for owners that aren't buying into the idea that SP is thin and needs to be poached earlier than in past years.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
The concerns with Scherzer aren't production-based, as he was still his normal, elite self in 2019 when he pitched. When, being the key word, as he dealt with injuries during the regular season and postseason that forced him to miss starts. Scherzer is similar to Verlander in the sense that you'll take him if you are comfortable taking on risk with an early pick.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
We've seen the absolute floor and absolute ceiling for Ramírez in 2019, and man, was it the tell of two seasons for him. Even with the early-season struggles, Ramírez posted a 23-homer, 24-steal season. Just because he struggled in the first part of the 2019 season doesn't mean he'll struggle in the first part of this season, but it also doesn't mean that he'll post the numbers that he posted in the latter months of the 2019 season. Still, the production is worth the slight risk.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Scherzer struggled a bit through the first month of the season, but went on a patented run in May and June that made him look like the Scherzer of old. Unfortunately, a back injury largely derailed his second half, as he was limited to just over 20 innings over July and August. Scherzer is entering his age-36 season and is a max effort pitcher, so the fact that we finally saw a bit of a breakdown (Scherzer has reached at least 200 innings in his six previous seasons) is concerning. But his numbers are still elite and he should be taken as one of the first pitchers off the board despite the back scare.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Ramirez's overall 2019 season was obviously subpar, as much as a 23-homer, 24-steal year can be. He batted just .218 in the first half with a mere seven home runs, and his fantasy value was saved only by his 18 first-half steals. But he looked closer to his old self in the second half, batting .327 with an 1.105 OPS. Whether it was him trying to do too much in the first half or something related to his newborn child (his surge happened to coincide with his return from paternity leave), Ramirez's return to normalcy in the second half should give you plenty of confidence in his 2020 outlook.

Skipping at ADP due to age and first time injury concerns in 2019.

Followed his terrible slump with a terrific stretch and then an injury
Brendan Tuma - BettingPros
Was elite on a per game basis in 2019. Injury concerns starting to mount
