Notes
Bryant missed 60 games last year and had his least efficient season of his career by quite a bit. There is some risk in drafting Bryant in the 3rd round, but he also comes with 40 homer upside, a batting average near .300 and both 100+ runs and RBIs
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Although his slugging percentage dropped from .618 to .496, Hoskins still popped 34 homers in his first full season. Boasting MLB's highest fly-ball rate (51.7%) and launch angle (22.6°) of all qualified hitters, drafters can expect more of the same. Yet it will come at the cost of batting average, and he'll only offer a handful of steals when pitchers aren't looking. Last year's 48th-ranked hitter on ESPN's Player Rater probably needs 40-plus homers to validate his hefty cost. At least he'll get plenty of RBI opportunities hitting alongside Bryce Harper.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Bryant appeared to be on the verge of establishing himself as a perennial first round fantasy pick following his MVP 2016 season. Then his home run total dropped from 39 to 29 in 2017, but it seemed like an outlier as his production remained otherwise excellent. But the bottom really fell out last season, as Bryant struggled through a shoulder injury while producing a paltry 13 homers over 102 games. Bryant's strikeout rate grew and his hard contact rate declined, but he simply wasn't healthy -- he was actually off to a strong start before suffering the injury in mid-May. Bryant has pronounced himself fully healthy, and the fact the injury was a bone bruise rather than ligament damage is reason to believe he can make a full recovery. It wouldn't be the least bit surprising to see him rocket back into the first round of fantasy drafts by this time next year.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
At 25 years old, Hoskins has quickly established himself as one of the premier power hitters in the game, swatting an impressive 52 home runs through his first 728 Major League at bats. That power output should continue in 2019 and come with strong run production in a loaded Phillies lineup. Hoskins doesn't project to be a major asset in stolen bases or batting average, but his handful of steals and .250-ish average will hardly kill you. With a solid floor and tantalizing upside, Hoskins is right there with Cody Bellinger as the next generation of studs at the position.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Everyone kept waiting for Bryant to turn the corner last season. They're still waiting. He hit a pedestrian .272/.374/.460 and continued a concerning power slide with 13 homers. The former MVP, who is only 27, was dealing with a shoulder injury. He could easily bounce back and deliver near first-round value, but drafters won't receive much of a discount at his third-round going rate. It's a fair price given his batting average and power upside, but the lack of speed and health certainty makes him far from a lock.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Hoskins has plenty of power, as evidenced by his 52 homers in just 728 career at-bats, but his career batting average now sits at .249. There will surely be plenty or runs and RBIs once again, but there isn't much value in grabbing him during any of the first five rounds.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
