Notes
There's a reason that you hear fantasy analysts say that you should target post-hype players: baseball is hard, man, and it takes time for players to fully figure it out. With his prospect pedigree, it took longer than most thought for Lucas Giolito to figure things out. But boy did he ever in 2019, with his 25-start dominating stretch to end the season. He looked like a totally different pitcher - but one who mowed down the league. Hitters are more often to click sooner than pitchers are in the big leagues, and if you look at his peripherals, there's not much to question about Giolito's breakout performance. As long as he keeps his increased velocity on his fastball, he'll continue to be a solid SP2 for fantasy managers.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
In a regular season, Hader would be the first reliever taken. However, with just 60 games this year and a less-than-good rotation, the Brewers could deploy Hader in a swing-man role in the seventh and eighth inning, and turn to Corey Knebel in the ninth.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Giolito earned every bit of his breakout season, putting up an ERA that we nearly identical to his FIP and xFIP and a major gain in control. Most impressive for Giolito was his ability to limit contact on pitches in the strike zone - just 77.3%, second best in MLB behind Gerrit Cole. His raw stuff is elite, and another fantastic season should follow in 2020.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Hader throws his fastball about 83 percent of the time and batters just can't hit it. They bat .167 against with a miniscule .275 wOBA and there's just no reason to expect that to change. Thus, his nearly 50 percent strikeout rate is likely here to stay, and that makes Hader the top reliever to draft in fantasy, even if his occasional multi-inning role means he won't get every save chance.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
2019 breakout can be attributed to an uptick in velocity and an improved changeup. Can he do it again?
Brendan Tuma - BettingPros
If you play in a league where saves are at a premium it make sense to be aggressive on Hader, who struck out 138 batters last year
