Notes
Ozuna's massive 2017 season seemed destined to go down as an outlier, and that's exactly what happened as he experienced a major drop-off in every offensive category last season. A shoulder injury reportedly impacted his performance last year, but the fact remains that Ozuna now has three full seasons where he has hit exactly 23 home runs with a batting average between .265 and .280 and 75-90 RBIs. That's the player we should expect in 2019, not the one that went .312-37-124 in 2017.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
There is plenty of reason to be excited about David Dahl, as his upside is a true five-category contributor. With that said, he has been among the most injury-prone players in baseball so even 400 plate appearances is no guarantee.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
All reasonable onlookers expected regression from Ozuna's .312, 37-homer outburst in 2017, but they still wanted better than .280 and 23 long balls. Let's see if he can find some middle ground this season. Playing through a nagging shoulder injury, which he addressed with an offseason surgery, he slashed his strikeouts and maintained similar levels of exit velocity and hard hits. He once again hit too many ground balls (47.1%), but he couldn't overcome it this time. The 28-year-old doesn't even need a major bounce-back to deliver value, as he could post a monster RBI tally batting behind Matt Carpenter and Paul Goldschmidt in St. Louis.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Dahl displayed an enticing combination of power, speed, and batting average in the minor leagues, but he has found it hard to nail down regular playing time in Colorado over the last couple seasons. Thankfully, that will no longer be an issue in 2019, as he's slated to be the Rockies' everyday left fielder. Dahl will need to keep his strikeout rate in check if he wants to be a true asset in batting average, but he should be able to contribute 25+ HRs and 10+ SBs this season while calling Coors Field home. There's always a little bit of risk when investing an early pick in a player who has never played a full Major League season, but Dahl's upside outweighs the risk once you get outside of the first five or six rounds of fantasy drafts.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Ozuna may have taken a huge step back last year, but even so, he put up 23 homers, 88 RBIs and a .280 batting average while playing with a significant shoulder injury. We don't know yet whether or not he will be ready to go on opening day, but assuming health, we might be closer to the 37 HR, 124 RBIs, and .312 BA we got from Ozuna in 2017.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
*In best Jerry Seinfeld voice* What's the Dahl with David's rising ADP? He's a top-100 choice in most spots after popping nine homers in September. Although he could easily offer 25 homers and 15 steals with a Coors-inflated batting average, investors must be willing to absorb some additional matchup homework. He recorded a .378 wOBA against righties and a .296 wOBA versus lefties, and even those steep splits are nothing compared to his .435 wOBA at home compared to a .254 wOBA on the road. This could make him trickier to own in leagues with weekly lineups.
