Notes
Before most of the majors even started the season, Olson got hit on his right hand by a pitch in Tokyo. He underwent hamate surgery, which will keep him out of action for at least a month. A tricky injury from which to recover, he may also need some time to rediscover his power upon returning. Just like that, a popular breakout pick throughout the offseason becomes someone to ignore -- unless given a sizable discount -- in drafts right before the league-wide Opening Day.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Smoak may not have hit 38 homers with 90 RBIs again like he did in 2017, but there is certainly nothing wrong with the 25 and 77 line he put together. His .242 batting average hurts, but at this stage in the draft, you have to give a little to get this type of power.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
After lighting the world on fire as a rookie, Olson's small sample size didn't translate to the monster power numbers some were banking on in 2018. With that said, he still offers loads of power for a 10th round pick, and while the batting average isn't ideal, it won't kill you like Joey Gallo's.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
While Smoak fell off from 2017's 38 homers and 133 wRC+, he still chipped in 25 homers and a 121 wRC+ with help from a stellar 14.0% walk rate in 594 plate appearances. He also dealt with a wrist injury early in the season while maintaining impressive hard-hit (41.5%) and barrel (10.5%) rates. With an ADP outside the top 200, he merely needs to repeat 2018, preferably with some better run production in more games. Yet 30 homers is still in play, in which case he'll make a great corner-infield bargain.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
After hitting a remarkable 24 home runs in just 59 games in 2017, Olson managed just 29 long balls in a full 162 game slate in 2018. But he was still among the league leaders in hard contact rate, and his batted ball profile suggests last season's home run total is close to his floor. Like many corner infielders, Olson won't be of any help in batting average or stolen bases, but is a strong bet for 30+ HRs with solid run production.
