Notes
As Frank Stampfl pointed out on Twitter, in 16 starts from July 2 to September 24, Clevinger put up the following numbers: a 1.76 ERA, 2.98 xFIP, 1.02 WHIP, 11.82 K/9, 2.21 BB/9, 15.4% SwStr, 66.9% F-strike, and 32.2% O-swing. That's an ace, and that's what Clevinger was being drafted as ... until he got hurt ... again. It's up to you as a fantasy manager to decide if the high ceiling is worth the low floor (hurt) or not.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
I expect more but 200K potential in a 162 season still gets my attention. I am higher than most on Nola but I see potential here.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
Clevinger sustained a partial medial meniscus tear in his left knee on February 14th and underwent surgery. Although his 6-8 week timetable made it highly unlikely that he'd be back for Opening Day, the postponement of the season means that Clevinger should be ready to go when the bell rings. That should make him a top-12 pitcher at worst.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Aaron Nola is one of the more polarizing players in fantasy baseball, but if you're looking for a dependable pitcher who can give you not just volume, but good volume, you shouldn't be too quick to discount what Nola brings to the table. He consistently goes six and seven innings, and he's one year removed from being a legitimate Cy Young candidate. If the baseball returns to its normal form, you should see Nola return to that Cy Young level, too.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
One of my favorite pitchers in the league, but beginning the season hurt is never a good thing as you never know if and when he will be back healthy. Risky pick at ADP.
Michael Petropoulos - BRoto Fantasy
Nola simply wasn't very good in 2019. His control took a major step back and batters consistently made better contact against him, particularly against his fastball. Whether it was an aberration for the youngster after two years of major growth, or whether perhaps Nola isn't as good as previously thought, is an open question. But given how drastically his control dipped, fantasy owners would be wise to give Nola somewhat of a pass for his 2019. He can't be drafted as an ace, but as a second starter? Go for it.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Injury concerns but has potential to be overall SP1 this year
Brendan Tuma - BettingPros
Started slow and finished poorly. However, if you're a believer you can cling to a four-month stretch where Nola posted a 2.96 ERA with 10.2 K/9
