Giovanny Gallegos was uncharacteristically wild on Tuesday night, pitching just 2/3 of an inning and issuing three walks, hitting a batter, and giving up a hit and two earned runs. Giovanny was charged with a loss and falls to 2-1 on the season. Lucas Spence Tue, Apr 20th | Nate Pearson is currently scheduled to throw live batting practice on Tuesday. Lucas Spence Sun, Apr 18th | Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins implied on Tuesday that pitcher and No. 1 prospect Nate Pearson is "absolutely pain-free. He is at 100% intensity off the mound. Now, it’s just a matter of getting him built back up." Pearson has been on the injured list with a groin injury that he aggravated in mid-March. Mike Maher - The Birds Blitz Tue, Apr 13th | |

Notes | ||
Gallegos pitched well last year with the Cardinals despite seeing limited innings because of his difficulty in getting to the states in the middle of a pandemic. But he was effective when he pithed, and owns a career 3.06 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 31.6% strikeout rate. The Cardinals want Jordan Hicks to be their closer, but Gallegos will undoubtedly be in the mix should Hick prove ineffective or suffer a setback in his return from Tommy John surgery. Dan Harris - FantasyPros | Pearson is oozing with talent, but he just can't seem to stay healthy. Whether it was elbow soreness last year or the groin strain that is now going to keep him out of action for a bit, something seem to crop up to delay his success in the majors. He wound up pitching just 18 innings overall last year, but the stuff is there, without question. His fastball reaches triple digits, his slider is dominant, and his curveball and changeup are far above average. There's always a bit more uncertainty with young power pitchers, particularly when they've had elbow injuries like Pearson has. And, after trading for Steven Matz, the Blue Jays have plenty of rotation depth and shouldn't feel pressured into rushing Pearson back from injury. In keeper and dynasty formats, he's still a buy, but in redraft leagues, he's probably not worth a pick at this point. Dan Harris - FantasyPros |
