Notes
Corbin was an absolute monster last season, striking out 246 batters with a 1.05 WHIP and 3.15 ERA. Granted, those ratios are likely to jump, perhaps even half a run in ERA, but he should also add considerably to his 11 wins from 2018 now that he is in Washington
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Treinen was simply phenomenal for Oakland last season, and he enters 2019 neck-and-neck with Edwin Diaz for the title of fantasy's number one closer.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Corbin had a breakout season in 2018, and his peripherals suggest his 3.15 ERA should have been even better. He was not a mixed league asset in either of the previous two seasons, so there is a bit of risk in relying on him as your top starter, but he should be able to replicate his success as long as he can continue to miss bats with his slider like he did last season.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Drafters should know better than to expect another 0.78 ERA from Treinen, but his ascension into an elite stopper was legit. He posted 100 punchouts with the third-highest swinging-strike rate (18.2%) behind Edwin Diaz and Josh Hader, and no reliever got opponents to chase outside the zone more often. Yet paying for any reliever's career year is dicey, especially a 30-year-old who had never struck out a batter per inning before 2018.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Corbin's breakout came as a result of leaning more on a devastating slider that yielded a .195 wOBA and 29.3% swinging-strike rate. It steered him to MLB's third-lowest FIP (2.47), seventh-highest strikeout % (30.8), and second-lowest contact rate (66.8%) among all qualified starters. The peripherals back the 29-year-old southpaw's breakout, but skeptics will point to an alarming 41.7% hard-hit rate and lack of a second plus pitch. Luckily the market is bearish enough on an encore to price Corbin as a high-end No. 2 starter rather than staff anchor.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Treinen was magical last season, floating a 0.78 ERA and 0.834 WHIP to go with 100 Ks and 38 saves. That made him the number two fantasy closer behind only Edwin Diaz, and that is precisely how he should be drafted this year. With that said, no closer taken in the first five rounds ever returns enough value so be patient.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
