Notes
Muncy was 2nd in HR-rate among all MLB hitters last season. Granted, he slowed down toward the end of the year and his batting average wasn't ideal, but that type of power certainly warrants a top 100 pick. This is especially the case when he qualifies at second base and third base too.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Devers was somewhat disappointing in his first full Major League season, hitting just .240 and missing some time with a hamstring strain. But the low batting average was largely due to an unusually low .281 BABIP -- his batted ball profile was nearly identical to his promising 2017 debut. He also managed to produce 21 homers and five steals in just 121 games, not too shabby for a guy who was just 21-years old. The full breakout could be coming this year.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Muncy was a late bloomer, bouncing around the Athletics' and Dodgers' farm systems for six years before breaking out in a big way at 27 years old. In his first extended opportunity in the Big Leagues, Muncy smacked 35 home runs in just 395 at-bats. That was due in part to a 29.4 percent HR/FB ratio that was one of the highest in baseball, but Muncy was also among the league leaders in hard contact rate. Even if his HR/FB rate drops off, he can make up for it with more games played, making him a decent bet to again top 30 home runs. He won't be an asset in batting average or stolen bases, but he is another example of a big-time power source you can acquire relatively cheaply.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
If it weren't for Vlad Jr, Eloy Jimenez would be the top prospect in baseball. He is one month older than Devers, who has already compiled 31 homers in 179 MLB games. He may have struggled last year, but let's not forget that when Alex Bregman was his age, he hadn't even been drafted yet. Devers is a former top prospect and while you may have been disappointed by his performance last year, that type of production is light years ahead of the best 21-year-old sluggers in the world.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Muncy had batted .195 with five homers in 245 big league plate appearances prior to 2018, so he naturally towered 35 homers with a .407 wOBA. He endured some troubling strikeout woes late in the season and playoffs, but there are plenty of reasons not to anticipate the bottom falling out entirely. Along with a gorgeous 16.4% walk rate, the late bloomer notched a heavy dosage of fly balls (44.9%, only 5.9% popups) and hard hits (47.4%). Per Statcast, only Joey Gallo served up a higher rate of barrels per batted balls than Muncy's 16.9. He's a solid power pick-and tremendous OBP target-if the rest of the room sees an obvious regression candidate.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Let's remember that Devers is only 22, and his "bad" season still consisted of 21 homers in 490 plate appearances. Although his rapid rise stalled with a .240/.298/.433 slash line, he showed some growth down the stretch with a 10.6% walk rate and .227 ISO after the All-Star break. He has slimmed down during the offseason, so the former uber-prospect is more than capable of circling the bases 25-30 times with a higher batting average. If so, this will be the last time he's available this late.
