Notes
Price isn't going to thrill anyone as a workhorse ace anymore, but he still posts plenty of Ks to go with useful ratios each and every season. With Boston's lineup behind him, we can expect plenty of wins as well, making him one of the most appealing third-tier starting pitchers this year.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Astros manager A.J. Hinch has affirmed that Osuna will again serve as the team's closer, a role he inherited last year upon returning from a 75-game suspension and getting traded from the Blue Jays. Osuna was a dominant closer from 2015-2017, but his K/9 rate alarmingly fell to 7.58 between Toronto and Houston last year. The good news is that he maintained an above-average 14.7 percent swinging-strike rate, indicating that he should return to striking out over a batter per inning while maintaining elite control. Save opportunities should also be plentiful on the World Series-contending Astros, so it makes sense for Osuna to get drafted as one of the first 10, if not five, closers off the board.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
In 2018, Price completed his ninth straight season with a sub-4.00 ERA and WHIP of 1.20 or better. He's also averaged right around a strikeout per inning over the last five seasons, and his win potential in Boston is always good. While he's not the dominant fantasy ace it once looked like he would become, Price is a perfectly solid second or third fantasy starter.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
After serving a suspension for a domestic violence charge, Osuna got traded to the Astros and was closing within a month. Those still comfortable drafting the 24-year-old should expect his 21.3% strikeout rate to rise back to his career 28.4% clip. A smaller sample size isn't as trustworthy, but he also maintained a 14.7% swinging-strike rate during that time. While there's fear that Ryan Pressly and a deep Astros bullpen will give him competition, Ken Giles had to pitch his way out of the ninth inning. Osuna, who owns a career 2.78 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, shouldn't lose the job for any on-field reasons.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Despite posting a 3.58 ERA and 177 strikeouts in 176 innings, Price showed some alarming signs of decline. His average fastball velocity dropped over a full tick, leading to his worst swinging-strike rate (9.6%) since 2013. His expected run-prevention metrics (4.02 FIP, 3.82 SIERA) also say he's no longer an ace. Yet he also recorded a 2.25 ERA after the All-Star break before vanquishing his postseason demons. The public seems well aware of the warning signs, so he won't make the worst SP2/3 if snagged beyond the top-20 starters.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Osuna didn't accomplish much last year because of his legal issues and the time missed as a result, but he as still extremely efficient, driving a 2.37 ERA with a 0.97 WHIP. Assuming he stays on the field, you can bank on 30 saves and plenty of strikeouts on top of the strong ratios.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
