Notes
Marte bounced back from his 2017 suspension season with another big year. He stolen 33 bases, knocked 20 homers and batted a quality .277. While he may not swipe 45 bags anymore, that power/speed combo makes him well worth a fourth round pick in standard leagues
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Although his slugging percentage dropped from .618 to .496, Hoskins still popped 34 homers in his first full season. Boasting MLB's highest fly-ball rate (51.7%) and launch angle (22.6°) of all qualified hitters, drafters can expect more of the same. Yet it will come at the cost of batting average, and he'll only offer a handful of steals when pitchers aren't looking. Last year's 48th-ranked hitter on ESPN's Player Rater probably needs 40-plus homers to validate his hefty cost. At least he'll get plenty of RBI opportunities hitting alongside Bryce Harper.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
With 30+ steals in five of the last six seasons and a batting average that is generally more useful than his on-base percentage, Marte is the definition of a roto league specialist. He also hit a career-high 20 home runs last season, and while that may be close to his ceiling for power, last season's .277 average is on the low end of what you can expect from him. While his HRs and average have fluctuated a bit from year to year, Marte has consistently been a top-50 player in standard 5x5 formats, and he should be so again in 2019.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
At 25 years old, Hoskins has quickly established himself as one of the premier power hitters in the game, swatting an impressive 52 home runs through his first 728 Major League at bats. That power output should continue in 2019 and come with strong run production in a loaded Phillies lineup. Hoskins doesn't project to be a major asset in stolen bases or batting average, but his handful of steals and .250-ish average will hardly kill you. With a solid floor and tantalizing upside, Hoskins is right there with Cody Bellinger as the next generation of studs at the position.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
The only players to bat at least .275 with 20 homers and 30 steals last season: Mookie Betts and Starling Marte. Lower the steals query to 20, and they're joined by Mike Trout, Francisco Lindor, Christian Yelich, Trevor Story, and Javier Baez. Only one of those guys frequently lasts beyond the third round. Marte will struggle to repeat that career-high in homers given his ground-ball tendencies, but he has swiped at least 30 bags in each of his last five full seasons. (He stole 21 in 77 games in 2017.) Don't worry too much about his poor walk rate in five-by-five leagues.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Hoskins has plenty of power, as evidenced by his 52 homers in just 728 career at-bats, but his career batting average now sits at .249. There will surely be plenty or runs and RBIs once again, but there isn't much value in grabbing him during any of the first five rounds.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
