Jack Flaherty tossed six innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out 11 to record his second win of the season as the Cardinals beat the Pirates 2-1 on Sunday. Flaherty allowed a leadoff double to Bryan Reynolds in the fourth inning and the Pirates brought him around to score on a sacrifice fly later in the frame. Flaherty threw 102 pitches, 61 of them for strikes, and the Cardinals improved to 26-24 with the victory. They are now one game ahead of both the Reds and Brewers for Second Place in the NL Central in what figures to be one of the final week's most exciting playoff races.

Jack Flaherty allowed nine earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six over three innings pitched in Tuesday's loss to the Brewers. Flaherty threw 81 pitches, 48 of them for strikes, and gave up back-to-back home runs in the first inning to Christian Yelich and Ryan Braun. The Brewers added two runs in the third on a Daniel Vogelbach double and seven runs in the fourth, five of which were charged to Flaherty. He allowed four singles and a walk before being relieved without recording an out in that inning. The Cardinals fell to 21-22 with the loss and have a half game lead over the Cincinnati Reds, and one game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for Second Place in the NL Central.

Notes
I can't fully trust Strasburg to stay healthy and the Nat's have babied his inning totals his entire career. The ability is elite, the production and my ranking is slightly dinged by his lack of durability.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
2019 shocked me and ranking him THIS high confirms that belief, but I can't move him ahead of the leagues Aces after one great season. Close, but not yet.
Chris Mitchell - FantasyData
Strasburg is coming off of a year where he threw 209 regular season innings on top of 36 innings in the playoffs, so he has the workload carryover concern for 2020. In 2014, Strasburg threw 215 innings, and he followed it up with 127 in the next season, so the shortened season should help him out this year. Add to the workload and injury concerns that his 2019 velocity and movement most resembled that of Pablo Lopez, Jake Arrieta, Jorge Lopez, and Tyler Mahle. Strasburg is a top-12 pitcher still, yes, but you should look to pair another higher-end SP with him as insurance.
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
When Jacob deGrom posted his historic 2018 numbers en route to his Cy Young, we knew that there would be regression coming in 2019. Carrying over a 1.70 ERA, 1.94 average against, and a 0.91 WHIP wasn't sustainable, and we knew that. For his encore in 2019, he posted a 2.43 ERA, .205 average against, and a 0.97 WHIP. So when people mention that Flaherty's second half is the driving force around his price tag, they aren't wrong. His second half was historic - especially compared to his first half of 2019, where he struggled mightly. But even with regression to his second-half numbers - 0.91 ERA, .142 average against, and 0.71 WHIP - Flaherty has the pedigree, sample size, and stuff to be the ace for your team. Don't overthink it."
Michael Waterloo - FantasyPros
Strasburg reached the 200-inning plateau for the second time in his career, and set a career high in wins with 18. Other than staying completely healthy, however, his numbers looked pretty much as they always have - just below the truly elite pitchers, but worthy of coming from your ace. Don't be sucked in by his magical postseason (1.98 ERA, 0.94 WHIP). Draft Strasburg as a top-10 pitcher, but expect his usual low-3.00 ERA and solid all around numbers.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
If ever there were a tale of two halves, it was Flaherty's 2019 season. A 4.64 ERA with a 1.23 WHIP in the first half, followed by a preposterous 0.91 ERA and 0.71 WHIP in the second half. His strikeout rate jumped, his walk rate dropped, and he saw a gain of almost a mile per hour on his fastball. The real Flaherty likely lies somewhere in between his first and second halves, but that should be a top-10 pitcher in 2020.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
A candidate to be over drafted coming off career-year and playoff heroics
Brendan Tuma - BettingPros
Posted a 0.93 ERA, a 0.70 WHIP, and 11 K/9 over final 16 starts
