Notes
Ramos missed most of 2017 and struggled while he was healthy, but that seems to be the outlier, as he was tremendous in both 2016 and 2018, batting over .300 both seasons with plenty of power. Ramos is one of the safest fantasy catchers and may have as much upside as anyone besides Sanchez and Realmuto.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Castillo only saw 49 games worth of action last season, but his bat was still quality when he played. Over the last five years, he averages 26 homers with a .261 BA and 85 RBIs per 162 games, so now that he is starting, fantasy owners can expect useful production out of him.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Ramos played just 111 games last year due to a hamstring injury, but when he was on the field he was just about as good as he was in his breakout 2016 season in Washington. He isn't likely to hit .306 again, but he's proven he has more batting average upside than most catchers, and he should be able to reach 20 home runs if he can avoid any lengthy DL stints. His new home of Citi Field is not a great place to hit, but that shouldn't prevent Ramos from being a rock-solid starting catcher in fantasy leagues.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Castillo was a top-eight catcher in 2017 and was off to a good start in 2018 before receiving an 80-game PED suspension in late May. He returned from the suspension and a brief DL stint in September, but didn't do much down the stretch. He's unlikely to match his career-best 2017 season, but barring a dramatic decline in production post-PEDs, Castillo should be able to hit around .260 with 15-20 home runs and be a serviceable starting catcher in 10- and 12-team mixed leagues.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Since undergoing Lasik surgery before the 2016 season, Ramos has registered a .298/.343/.483 slash line with 20 homers per 500 plate appearances. Yet 2016 ended with a torn ACL, and a hamstring injury interrupted last year's All-Star campaign. After moving to the Mets, the 31-year-old can no longer DH, and a 54.9% ground-ball rate tempers his power upside. Despite all of these warts, he's a catcher with a good bat. He's a top-five option, just not one to lunge for before Salvador Perez or Yasmani Grandal.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
Catcher was bleak enough before losing Salvador Perez, so Castillo stands out as a fine choice for those who punt the position. An avalanche of injuries led him to post a middling .308 wOBA in 49 games, but he clobbered 53 homers over the previous three seasons. The career .259/.318/.427 hitter could combine a solid average with 15 long balls.
