Notes
Plesac is getting a ton of love for his eight excellent starts in 2020, but there's plenty of reason to be cautious. His FIP, xFIP, xERA, and SIERA were all more than a run higher than his ERA, and both his strikeout rate and walk rate significantly outproduced what he showed he could do in the minors. Yes, Plesac altered his pitch mix, throwing fewer fastballs and instead more sliders and changeups, so if you're looking for a reason to buy the gains, you have one. But he had a ridiculous 91.7% LOB rate, and even with his ability to limit hard contact, his BABIP against should rise from the .224 mark last year. Plesac can help a fantasy staff, but manage expectations significantly.
Dan Harris - FantasyPros
Playoffs included, Anderson's final 2020 stat line was 51 innings, 65 strikeouts, a 1.59 ERA, and a 1.10 WHIP. Backed up by a strong prospect pedigree, Anderson was extremely impressive in his first taste of the big leagues. He never got shelled in any start and gave up just one homer all season. His regular season CSW (called strike plus whiff rate) compated similarly to Blake Snell and Walker Buehler at 30.8%. The concerns with his '21 fantasy value are a 4.2 BB/9 and an innings limit. While valid, Anderson is talented enough to still warrant excitement as a top 25-30 SP.
Brendan Tuma - FantasyPros
Plesac is one of the most polarizing starting pitchers among fantasy analysts this offseason. A questionable off-the-field decision maker, Plesac dominated when on the mound in 2020. In an era where it's rarer and rarer to pitch deep into games, Plesac completed six full innings in all eight of his starts last year. He completed seven innings in 5-of-8 starts. So, how did he get so good all of a sudden? Plesac cut his fastball usage in order to throw an increased number of sliders and changeups. In short, the change in pitch mix worked. It was a short-but-terrific body of work. I'm a believer moving forward, and it's going to cost an early-to-middle round pick to get him.
Brendan Tuma - FantasyPros
After rising through the minor leagues, Anderson had an excellent debut season with the Braves in 2020, pitching to a 1.95 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with a 29.7% strikeout rate. He was even better in four postseason starts, allowing just two runs over 18 2/3 innings while striking out 24. Anderson led all starters in barrel rate (just 1.2%), and has an excellent fastball, curveball, and changeup. His control isn't elite, but his raw stuff and prospect pedigree suggest that his 2020 season was no fluke. Draft him with confidence as a No. 2 starter.
