Notes
Greinke's age is now 35 and he did have a rough season three years ago, but besides then, he has been phenomenal since 2009. Expect plenty more of the same in 2019 with excellent ratios, about 15 wins and around 200 strikeouts. This makes him a top 20 starting pitcher for 2019 fantasy leagues
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Jansen has been so good for so long that you might automatically assume him to be the top closer once again in 2019, but last year, he was nowhere close to it. Rather, his ERA plummeted to 3.01 with "just" 82 Ks. You can still grab him among the top tier, but you shouldn't even be considering taking him in the first five or six rounds.
Bobby Sylvester - FantasyPros
Greinke is not an elite strikeout pitcher, but he is a workhorse with pinpoint control who has produced an ERA of 3.21 or better and WHIP of 1.15 or better in five of the last six seasons. There is real value in that consistency. He's an ideal second starter in standard mixed leagues.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Kenley Jansen's numbers declined across the board last season, as he posted the lowest K/9 rate (10.3) and highest ERA (3.01) of his career. And yet he still finished as the seventh-best reliever in standard rotisserie leagues. Jansen has pronounced himself "ready to roll" following his second heart procedure in November, and while players are known for being overly optimistic about their health, there isn't much reason to view Jansen as a major risk to miss time. The projection systems generally expect last year's numbers to be Jansen's new normal, so he could be overvalued if fantasy owners anticipate the Jansen of old, but he should still be regarded as a reliable top-10 closer for 2019.
Andrew Seifter - FantasyPros
Greinke has posted superbly similar ERAs (3.20, 3.21) and WHIP (1.07, 1.08) in the last two years, but the heavily used 35-year-old comes with some warning signs. His average fastball velocity slipped to 89.6 mph, leading to a .361 wOBA against the pitch. He also benefited from his lowest BABIP (.272) and highest strand rate (80.2) since 2015's 1.66 ERA. A cerebral pitcher with elite control, Greinke should avoid bottoming out entirely. Yet the risk is there. He's someone to draft as a steady SP2 rather than a staff anchor.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
What felt like a disastrous season for Jansen would have been great for most other relievers. He registered a career-high 3.01 ERA and career-low 10.3 K/9 substantially below his career average of 13.5. Health is his primary concern after undergoing heart surgery over the offseason, and he reportedly lost 25 pounds and is "ready to roll." Although no longer the premier closer in town, he's still a top-five option.
Andrew Gould - FantasyPros
