Astros avoid arbitration with Mike Fiers

The Astros avoided arbitration with Mike Fiers on Thursday, settling with the 31-year-old righthander on a $3.45-million salary for this season. The parties settled at exactly the midpoint of the figures each proposed last Friday. Fiers' side had filed for a $3.9 million salary while the Astros proposed $3 million. (Houston Chronicle)
Fantasy Impact:
Fiers, a first-time arbitration eligible player, had an 11-8 record with a 4.48 ERA in 31 games (30 starts) last season, totalling 168 2/3 IP. Presuming all of the Astros' starting pitchers are healthy, Fiers will have to earn a spot in the back of the rotation in spring training.
