Max Scherzer throws, still has pain

by Chris Zolli | Rangers Correspondent | Wed, Feb 22nd 7:40am EST

Max Scherzer was able to throw with a normal grip on Monday, but still had pain in his knuckle. His stress fracture in his right ring figure was misdiagnosed during the season and he still is questionable for the beginning of the season. Scherzer was the 2016 NL Cy Young award winner with a 20-7 record and 2.96 ERA. (Washington Post)

Fantasy Impact:

While there are many reasons to like Scherzer, the fact that he has pitched at least 220 innings in each of the last three seasons and struck out at least 230 batters in each of the last five seasons have to top the list. An injury would put a serious damper on those statistics, as would playing through the injury and putting up poor performances. While an injury is not good, there are DL spots in most leagues and Scherzer should be drafted as the second SP off the board in all drafts.
