Gerrit Cole was shut down at the end of the 2016 season, but threw two innings of batting practice yesterday in Bradenton. Cole has limited to only 116 innings after finishing 4th in the 2015 NL Cy Young race and should be good to go for the 2017 season. He finished 7-10 with a 3.88 ERA last season. (TribLive)
Fantasy Impact:
For a pitcher as talented as Cole to struggle as much as he did, you have to believe that the injuries played a huge factor. Cole has been plagued by bad luck, and now injuries, in his young career, as he has a 2.98 career FIP and a career 3.23 ERA in 579 1/3 innings. There are a lot of reasons to like Cole as a SP2/3 this season, mainly that he has strikeout per inning potential and had a 1.15 WHIP coming into 2016.
