Ronny Rodriguez joins the Indians' bench competition

by Gavin Tramps | Mon, Feb 27th 6:30am EST

Infielder Ronny Rodriguez went 0-for-2 with a walk in the Indians' tie vs. Cubs on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact:

Indians' manager Terry Francona confirmed that his three candidates for the backup infield job are Erik Gonzalez, Michael Martinez and surprisingly, Ronny Rodriguez. Francona went on to say that Rodriguez has "a lot of sock in his bat". The 24-year-old, who is in camp as a non-roster invitee, can play all four infield positions. He struggled in his first taste of Triple-A last year with .693 OPS but looked better in the Dominican Winter League, leading the league in batting average and slugging with a .306/.362/.463 slash line.
