Anibal Sanchez to start season in long relief

Anibal Sanchez will open the season in Detroit's bullpen, according to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press. Matt Boyd is expected to fill his slot in the rotation. (Anthony Fenech on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact:
Sanchez struggled mightily in 2016 and needed a strong showing this Spring if he'd hoped to crack the rotation. Although his 20 Ks and 1.07 WHIP in 19.2 IP looked nice, his 5.03 ERA must have alarmed manager Brad Ausmus. Matt Boyd has pitched excellently this Spring and earned the fifth rotation spot. As long as Sanchez is in long relief, he's useless for fantasy purposes.
