Justin Verlander struggles in final Spring tune-up

by Daniel Knese | Astros Correspondent | Wed, Mar 29th 2:57pm EDT

Verlander lasted just three innings against the Phillies on Wednesday, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out three.

Fantasy Impact:

The damage came from a first inning RBI triple by Michael Saunders and a 3-run homer by Daniel Nava in the third inning. Despite this poor showing, Verlander finishes this Spring with a 3.16 ERA in 25.2 IP. Verlander still got his work in and this outing can be largely ignored by fantasy owners, as this doesn't affect his standing as a top-10 fantasy SP. Verlander is expected to start the Tigers' opener on Monday against Jose Quintana and the White Sox and should be started with confidence.
