Steven Matz MRI comes back clean, but will open 2017 on DL

It was reported this morning that Steven Matz's MRI on his elbow has come back clean, which is obviously good news for Matz, the Mets and fantasy owners who own Matz shares. That said, Matz will be shut down for three weeks and open the 2017 campaign on the DL. It is likely Matz will miss all of April, which impacts his fantasy value in seasonal leagues, as fantasy drafts wind down over this weekend. (Marc Carig on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

Zack Wheeler will assume the SP4 position in the Mets' rotation while Matz is out. Given Matz's injury history and this three-week shut down development, Matz remains a very risky SP option in 2017, albeit with high upside. The injury concern will remain througout the season even after Matz eventually returns to the Mets' rotation in early May. Owners should target Wheeler as a very capable replacement for Matz while he remains sidelined (and beyond Matz's return).
