Yu Darvish gets the quick hook in loss to Athletics Tuesday night

by Steve Painter | Padres Correspondent | Wed, Apr 19th 1:45am EDT

Yu Darvish was terrific through five innings Tuesday night against the Athletics, but that quickly changed in the sixth when he changed his approach in the game. Through five, he aggressively attacked the zone but when he got a two-run lead, he became tentative, and that cost him the game and the ire of coach Jeff Banister, who appeared frustrated as Darvish struggled and appeared to have yanked his ace over the matter. Over 5 1/3 innings pitched, and only 82 pitches, Darvish allowed three hits and four runs (all earned) while walking two and striking out four. With the 4-2 loss, he is now 1-2 on the year. Next up for him is Jason Hammel and the Royals, Sunday in Arlington.

Fantasy Impact:

There was no word after the game about any injury so it appears he was yanked by what many saw, just a complete change in approach by Darvish. Unusual, yes, but things are tough all-around for the Rangers these days unless you are A.J. Griffin. And therein lies the point, things will return to normal sooner rather than later in Arlington. And that includes Darvish.
