Cole Hamels was spectacular Friday night in the win over Kansas City. Over eight innings, he allowed three hits and one run (earned) while walking two and striking out three. It was just what the beleaguered Rangers needed, a solid outing and a win. With the victory, Hamels is now 1-0 on the year. Next up for him is Hector Santiago and the Twins, Wednesday in Arlington.

This is the kind of performance that owners look forward to from Hamels. Just solid, gritty determination to get the job done. He is primed for a great year and games like this may not occur weekly, but still, he set the expectation tonight and is up to the challenge of being a big presence on the mound for his team.
