Kenta Maeda strikes out eight

by Stan Son | Tigers Correspondent | Sat, Apr 29th 1:07am EDT

Kenta Maeda allowed five hits, two earned runs, walked one, and struck out eight in seven innings Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies. 65-of-101 pitches were thrown for strikes.

Fantasy Impact:

Maeda had really been struggling to start the season. He had not pitched over five innings in a game and had allowed a total of 17 earned runs in 19 innings. Friday night's outing of seven innings marked only the third time in 37 starts he had accomplished that feat. The main culprit for Maeda's early season struggles could be attributed to allowing the long ball. All the other peripherals showed that good things were in store: K/9 was 9.00, strand rate was only 62.5%, xFIP was 4.39, and swinging strike rate was a robust 14.7%. Maeda is next scheduled to start against the Giants, a team that ranks 24th in OPS against RHP.
