Justin Verlander pitches seven strong innings, wins on Tuesday

by Daniel Knese | Astros Correspondent | Wed, May 3rd 12:55am EDT

Justin Verlander (2-2) won on Tuesday against Cleveland, going seven innings while allowing two runs on four hits. He walked four and struck out five. 68 of his 118 pitches went for strikes.

Fantasy Impact:

Pitch counts were again a bit of an issue, but he otherwise pitched well. Walks have been an issue for Verlander all season, and his 4.21 BB/9 would be the worst of his 13 year career. He's still a fantasy ace and should be started every time he pitches, but it would be wise to monitor him very closely from now on and perhaps entertain the idea of trading him. His next start will be Sunday against Oakland.
