Hisashi Iwakuma hit by a comebacker Wednesday, should make next start

by Mike Maher | Thu, May 4th 12:28pm EDT

Hisashi Iwakuma gave up three runs on six hits and a walk over five innings in a no-decision on Wednesday. He was hit by a comebacker on his left knee in the fifth inning, and while he finished that inning and came out to start the sixth, he was removed from the game after allowing three straight hits. Mariners manager Scott Servais has since said he expects Iwakuma to make his next scheduled start.

Fantasy Impact:

Iwakuma is a back-of-the-rotation type starter for fantasy baseball purposes, as his strikeout totals are never very high. In 2016, he set career highs in walks and WHIP with 46 and 1.33, respectively. Through his first six starts in 2017, Iwakuma owns a lackluster 16-to-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio. While it sounds like Iwakuma will be okay moving forward, you will likely find his name on the waiver-wire multiple times throughout the fantasy season.
